training martial arts and weights

I started going during a free trial promo.
Out of 8 of us only 2 stuck around.

That sounds about right. Here’s a little pro-tip for your ears if you don’t already know.

Throw a bit of Vaseline on your ears before training.

It's been kinda funny keeping track of the body parts that are sore.

I've got almost everything from head to toe .
A couple days ago we practiced escape from triangles. My ears hurt. Kept waking up when I slept on my side.
You can get ear guards if your worried about colliflower ears. I have some on my left ear. Fuck it. Some guys get it, some dont.

well... I'm already dealing with my first injury. about a month ago I had some sloppy attempt at a jumping guard that had me land flat on my back. knocked the wind outa me a little, but no big deal. I had a nagging ache in my lower flank that persisted, thought I bruised a kidney or something.
Well a few day ago we were working on some fundamentals, passing guard into side control. I paired up with a guy that was about 250#.
Everything was good, he was being as gentle as a big guy could be with the drills. I made the mistake of suggesting that when he gets to side control that he should put all of his weight on my chest, like we always do in side control. I guess all of his weight was enough to finish messing up the rib that I bruised with the fall on my back.
It was a sharp pain in the ribs, almost thought I had kidney stone. The odd thing is, I tried to treat it like a cramp and rolled around on a foam roller and a medicine ball to loosen it up. Today Ive got the discomfort, extreme pain to sneeze, and a rib that I can make click by holding my breath and squeezing.

Chiro says itll be six weeks to heal, I hope she is wrong.
Im gonna try some bpc157 peptide to see if it speeds it up

If you’ve separated a rib, which that’s what it sounds like...at the very least, then take time off sparring. Show up for technique and do light drills that won’t aggrivate the injury.

I feel for you man, this happened very early on in my training and it really sucks. Just take your time and don’t roll till you’re 100%.

I popped my rib twice in the past. It hurt like a bitch. I took about 6 weeks to fully heal, but I was back after 2 weeks. I agree about just drilling until you feel you can roll again. Then you can just flow roll. Dont miss class unless you really have to. It sucks ,but it's part of the game unfortunately.

hey guys,
my town finally has a little jiu jitsu gym.
did my first class yesterday and had an awesome time.
we must have rolled for an hour.
so I'm 49 and was the most gassed ive been since hunting season. totally kicked my butt.
i think i will learn to be more efficient with my energy, but for now it wears me out.
how do you guys that roll mix in your weight training?
how many days per week should I give to jiu jitsu to make good progression?
I'm content maintaining my muscle mass at 200lb 5ft11 and 14%
i don't compete, just lift for fun and mental health.

I’m far from an expert but have competed in MMA regionally, Sport Karate on a world level and won a Regional Golden Glove tournament. If your still trying to keep the loads moving while working on your gas tank for Jits I would def reccamend to switch to a basic Olympic Lifting program. Google Tim Swords or California Strength to find such programs. The “combo movements” will help you all around. Good luck!!!!

Leg injuries is why I had to quit bjj... couldn't afford to have fucked up knees and ankles before getting my permanent job. I trully miss rolling and drilling.

I’ve already had one knee surgery because of BJJ, and have a torn ACL that will eventually need surgery. It really is bad on the legs. But it’s the thing I like most so I’m willing to do through it.

Once I get my permanent job, I'll be back on the mat for sure. Won't really care about injuries at that point.

Hey guys. Just thought I would check in with my Jiu-Jitsu Brothers. I think I'm about seven or eight months and do it now. Definitely getting better, still having a blast.
Looks like I'm one of those guys that does get cauliflower ear, have a little bit in both ears now. But I'm old, I'm married, so fuck it.
Definitely getting better at not gassing out, but I had to Pace myself and use my techniques instead of my strength.
Pretty much all of my submissions are upper body, darce choke and arm triangles. I don't think I've actually hit and finished a leg triangle,
And it's definitely a tremendous intense workout, I feel overtrained on a regular basis.
I've been getting pretty much an equal mix of gi and no gi.

Definitely learn how to breathe.

Which sounds like a no brained, but you'll get it in time.

When I was still rolling I took a totally different approach to cardio. While everyone else did their runs and calisthenics I just lifted...faster.

Yeah, it's an old joke.

But you're aim is to improve both cardiovascular and muscular endurance. Being both statically strong and explosive are also huge pluses.

Throw body weight on the bar and crank out 8-10 sets for 15-20 reps. Start with 90s rest and work your way down to 30s.

Do the same with Pendlays, TB deadlifts, and DB presses.

Nobody will be able to blow you up inside of a month.
