Treadmills & Recommendations

I’m looking to add a treadmill for the wife and I. There are so many choices and options. Of course the one I want is a TechnoGym Skillrun. There’s a row of them at my gym and they are hands down the most comfortable treadmills to run/jog on. Catch is they are 10k so that’s not happening.

Anyone got a preference or insight on a good smart purchase? Should I just take to craigslist or Facebook market and buy used?

Watch Craig's list and ebay for deals. Most new treadmills end up abandoned within the first month, and resold a year or so later for next to nothing. A lot of people just want to get the thing out of their house, so they don't have to look at it and remember why they bought it.

I bought my wife a Horizon treadmill a couple years ago. Not a real expensive one, around $700. My wife and son use it. It's held up pretty good. My son runs hard on it and he's 6' 185lbs.

May I suggest not getting one? More often than not they become clothes racks. Treadmill at gym can be tolerable because there’s a lot of distraction. Treadmill at home is horrible. Running outside is best. I vote for sticking with the treadmill at home and running with the wife around your neighborhood. Now if you live up north and you’re about to be snowed in and you’re dead set on a treadmill, buy used off Facebook or Craigslist.

Started googling treadmills a few days ago and now every time I get on FB or IG there is advertisement for Horizon treadmills. Honestly I'm not sure I've ever even heard of them until this week.

Thanks for the review. I'm definitely looking for something that will last years and take a beating.

I figured I wouldn't get many responses to this thread as most here are meat heads and probably don't do cardio. lol

Trust me I know all about owning and not using a home gym. I have an awesome garage gym that never gets used. I feel the treadmill will get used though. I already get up at 4:45 for work so morning gym cardio sessions just aren't happening unless it is at the house as I don't care to get up much earlier than I already am.

I hear ya though. I hate treadmills and would prefer the outdoors but not at 4am. I will probably buy used as you are probably right that after a few months it will become a very heavy piece of furniture.

You’d be surprised how peaceful running is at 4 AM. Granted I live in a warmer climate and have a really good trail/pathway but you should at least try it for a few weeks. Have your shoes, head lamp, running clothes laid out. Alarm goes off, up and out the door.

Now I say this without knowing your cardio goals. Mine was to get as many miles in as possible without disrupting my work or family life. And I’m fast enough to knock out decent mileage in an hour.

Good luck, start cheap. If you stick with it, upgrade.

I work for a moving company and we move them all the time. None of them ever look like they've been used in years and they almost always want them put out in the garage or the basement to collect more dust. They're one of the things people try to give away for next to nothing when they're moving. Nice ones, too.

I wouldn't buy a new one unless you've got a lot of money to blow and just want a new one. Just watch Facebook swap and craigslist or look for moving sales.

Haha! I did moving for 8yrs as a 2nd job in fucking hot ass Florida! That's where I got the first treadmill we had. Someone gave it to me. I had about 10 different people offer me Bowflexes too. I wasnt willing to take them though.

Yeah, in the last year I've been given seven dryers, three washers, a deep freeze, a 50" Samsung TV, and a huge commercial refrigerator with sliding glass doors like you'd see in a restaurant kitchen. Among other random furniture. I get offered stuff like pianos I don't take because it's not worth the hassle. Just took one to Goodwill the other day. Crazy the stuff people give away because they don't want to deal with it.

Only been offered to buy exercise equipment so far. It would have to be free for me to mess with a treadmill. We've already got an elliptical and stationary bicycle anyway. I wouldn't take a Bowflex either lol.

My wife bought a cheaper treadmill couple of years ago. She is running every morning, the treadmill frame cracked ( thank god before a year warranty ) since than I had to tune that sh.t up few times ...
You can find commercial grade fitness equipments - when the gym got closed down ...
Personally I like cross trainers - precor efx 576 ...
Just because my knees can't take the impact ...

Crazy the stuff people give away because they don't want to deal with it.

I am one of those people. I hoard things and have a bunch of stuff that are in perfect working condition. When I buy something new, I don't get rid of the old in the same go. <- that's what I need to improve
The problem is that I don't need it and I haven't established routines for how to get rid of things. So the years go by and then you are stuck with 10,000 items. So throwing all the crap away takes care of the problem much easier than trying to sell every little thing.

I live in a pretty affluent area. I had a guy give me a painting for a tip on a divorce move. Someone bought it for $1800!
