Tricep injury

image.jpg image.jpg So last Saturday I had some extra time. I figured I would go to gym and do a light bench routine, seeing as I had just gone heavy the Wednesday before. I had just done a set of 295x5 I believe it was. I went back to do the same weight again, and after starting up with the first rep I had a pain shoot through left tricep and I failed to lift it immediately. No pain, only tightness, after I got up. From then until now, still no pain unless I try to push resistance. Today my fiancée asked me what was wrong with my arm, and then she pointed out the bruising I hadn't noticed. I'll attach a picture and ask who has had a similar injury, and how long were you down. I'm 43, was away from the gym for nearly six years until late this past summer. Now I'm currently on a test, deca, EQ cycle that I just finished kicking off with d-Bol. Any help is appreciated, and I hope this doesn't put an end to building my bench on this cycle.

No input on best course of action. Still no inflammation or pain. 30lbs on cable pull down is where it starts to really hurt. So heat, ice, rest? Or is there anything else I can do?

Benny, I have no real knowledge on this but I would go get it checked. I had very similar bruising on the inside of my forearm when I had completely torn my distal bicep tendon. I was able to finish the meet with minimal pain and didn't go to the doctor for nearly two weeks and was lucky they were able to get it repaired as the sooner after the injury they perform surgery the higher the success rate. The doctor will likely do an MRI and figure it out.

I know this isn't what you want to hear and hopefully it will turn out to be something minor but I would definitely get it checked soon.

Certainly not what I wanna hear, but yeah guessing I should get to DR. I didn't realize you could tear a tendon like that with out pain or loosing movement.

I think it depends on the person but it can definitely happen without having major pain. The shooting pain followed by no real other pain is very similar to what happened to me.

The bruising would have likely happened pretty much instantly but based on where it is at could it have bruised up then and you didn't notice it?

While a torn triceps tendon is relatively uncommon, they are devastating injuries for athletes when they are missed and go untreated. For this reason, the doctor and athletic trainer must maintain a high index of suspicion. An injured athlete will describe a mechanism of injury where the elbow was forcibly bent while he or she was trying to extend it. There will be tenderness to the touch and swelling where the tendon attaches to the back of the elbow. There will also be weakness when the elbow is extended against resistance. An ultrasound or MRI can be very useful to confirm the diagnosis and specifically identify the location of the tear and degree of retraction of the tendon - See more at: http://www.sportsmd.com/SportsMD_Articles/id/317.aspx#sthash.ucTveQvc.dpuf

Yeah, I can't swear to when the bruising actually happened. How long did the surgery limit you?

Any kind of extension with heavy weight can surely cause a partial or complete tear...as what others said get it checked out ASAP so you'll have a better chance of getting it fixed. When doing pushdowns or exercises that involve the triceps, I generally feel a warning pain when the triceps is at risk for injury

Not long. Had to go back and look at my log. I benched with my arm brace on 3 weeks to the day after surgery. Of course the surgeon knew nothing of it and would not have approved. I did 3x300 two board bench 32 days after surgery.

How the arm hold up after that workout?

Glad to hear the repair and healing went so well Masters Power. I'll be calling my orthopedic in the AM.

Good. I never looked back and haven't had any issues with the arm since the surgery 22 months ago. Quite frankly I probably pushed it too much but if I would have ever felt any pain I would have shut it down.
Yep that is a good thing, and when I start feeling real pain I shut things down as well

I second this, let us know. Maybe it is just a bad strain. I could only find a couple of pictures of tricep tear bruising and both looked to cover a bit more area than yours.
Ankle sprains and rolls for example also can have a lot of bruising and not a torn ankle ligament/muscle. One time I had rolled my ankle and had nasty bruising but no tears.

I've strained my ankle before and had similar bruising as well with no tears. But I have also broke my ankle and screwed it all up, and was still walking on it thinking it was strained.

This was 6 days after the full distal bicep tendon tear when I still didn't think there was anything major wrong.

Dr says not a complete tear, and doesn't advise any further medical treatment unless it is giving me problems in three weeks. He believes it to be a small tear in the muscle and doesn't think tendon was damaged.
