TRT and cholesterol

I started taking:

2400mg red yeast rice
1000mg no-flush niacin
1 a day garlic high allicin dosage...sorry can't remember the original brand and dosage but now I am taking GarliMax which is about 7000mcg Allicin, 15,000mcg Alliin
I forgot I was also taking 10mg Policosonol
100mg CoQ10
LEF Super EPA/DHA 4/day
3000mg of CLA/day

I eventually eliminated the red yeast rice and lowered the niacin to 500mg. While on the higher dosages my doc kept checking my liver as well as my lipids and I never had any issues or concerns just continued good results.

My blood work form lipid profile consists of the standard test plus C-reactive protien, homocysteine, cortisol and a special profile called an NMR LipoProfile. The results between the NMR and the standard don't match exactly but the overall results were great. Chol reduced from 286 to 198. The particle sizes which is what the NMR shows all improved. Insurance wouldn't pay for the NMR so I didn't get it as often as I would have liked but the results were evident and suppported by my doc.

Hope this helps...

CLA is Conjugated Linoleic Acid and Allicin and Alliin are two of the active components of Garlic. These were additional products that I added to my supplementation program.

What was the CLA for? People usually take that for fat loss.

CLA has many reported possible benefits, yes fat loss is one of them but so are benefits to lipids such as reduction of total cholesterol and LDL (low-density lipoprotein) and triglyceride reduction.

I actually took the CLA for many reasons... my supplement regimen is/was based on numerous goals

Well as promised here are my lipid panel results from 4/7/06 after being on TRT for 44 days... and no I am not happy :-( I am also not following my supplement regimen consistently and with my hectic travel schedule my diet is terrible.... time to really crack down.
If their is interest I will keep posting, including my newly modified regimen, and the results as I am tested.
