What kinda shoes do you guys ware to the gym?

I have asics. but Im not sure if they give good support with deads and squats?

What should I do?

Also a friend of mine who is a hardcore squat guy says I should only do squats in jeans. b/c they keep everything much tighter.

But theres no way in hell im going to the gym in jeans.

Have a good holiday!!!!

I wear chuck taylors (converse all stars). They have a good flat sole and give pretty good support. Tennis shoes tend to keep you off balance for the squat and dead, since the heel is usually higher up than the toe. As far as working out in jeans.... I can't really see any benifit what so ever, nor have I ever heard/seen any acutal lifters use them.

the type of shoes depends on what you are doing in the gym. For many, a good pair of OL shoes are great to do squats, deadlifts, cleans, presses, and anything else where you are standing on your feet. The solid heel helps you get in solid positions at the bottom of the squat and lends a lot of stability.

If your a powerlifter, and using the exaggerated wide stance, shoes like chucks with no heel seem to work.

If you are the bodybuilder type, and not squatting like a powerlifter, and not doing things like cleans, squats, overhead work as a major part of your workout, then some type of basketball shoe with fairly solid support really arent that bad. hell eddie coan was doing reps in the squat with 950+lbs in converse high tops, so they cant be all that bad. just stay away from the more "modern" shoes with the little air pockets or "shocks" in them, they are not that great for lifting.

I wear wrestling shoes, too. I don't think they can be beat. I've been doing it for years now. I plan on trying some Oly shoes some day, but I'm too broke at the moment.

I like those shoes they look nice.

Ill be the only guy in the gym hardcore enough to have em also which is cool.

Takin it to the next level.
