Under thumb grip on curls for peak

I've spoken to many people in the fitness field that have told me that bicep peak is strictly genetic. I don't think that an under thumb grip would create more of a peak.

I am just getting back into action with the weight lifting as of 3 months ago..using the 5x5 STRICTLY as written (if you tamper it, then you may as well not use it)...anyway back in 2000 through 2002 was when I was at my physical peak and my training partner had completely opposite genetics as me.. so it made things pretty interesting.. my point is just that we followed the same workout plan 100% and he ended up with just straight up massive biceps where I ended up with I pretty significant peak, or atleast next to his it was.. so I completely agree that it is all genetics, from what I've seen in my experiences.. what happens right before your eyes is pretty good evidence to follow ;).. He was a bit shorter, I'm 5'11, he is 5'7, I have much longer arms than him, and his bicep "gap" was MUCH MUCH less than mine.. we used to check how many fingers we can fit between the end of the bicep and your elbow joint to see how large the gap was, he was only able to fit 1 finger, I could fit 3 fingers.. and as far as I know, I could be wrong, that is mostly what makes up the whole peak factor... when you have a larger gap, you have a shorter bicep, so it has less length to plant size on then someone who has a very little gap....... if I am wrong, feel free to let me know.. because if this is wrong, I am curious.......

I have good size biceps, but poor peaks. Recently one of my training partners suggested that at the top of my dumbell curls, I rotate the heel of my palm towards my shoulder and squeeze on each rep. In 3 weeks I have seen marked improvement in how distinctly my biceps peak. But I also think genetics play a large role in shape and development.

Bicep shape is genetic. Doing "Scott curls" will not give you biceps like Larry Scott. Doing bent over curls like Arnold in Pumping Iron will not give you biceps like Arnold, any more than doing hack squats like Tom Platz will give you legs like Tom Platz.

You can control size and you can control definition. Often times, getting lean will bring out peaks by giving deeper cuts around the muscle.

The reason you cannot change the shape of the bicep is because the tension is more-or-less evenly distributed along the length of the tissue. All fibers from origin to insertion bear the brunt of the load evenly (there are some differences around the insertion due to pennation angle of the fibers around the musculo-tendonous junction but that is beyond the scope of this thread). This is why guys will use spot injections of either test or synthol to create a false peak. This is also commonly done in the rear delt.
