Unemployment compensation

Isn't this welfare in disguise? Damn those liberals. Bob?

It is far from welfare. First, you are only alotted so much money, once that money is gone. It is gone. There is no more. Second, you paid for when you worked. You paid half and your employer paid half.

I dont remember how the unemployment tax works. But basically it is subsidized laziness for W-2 employees.

You are incorrect. A person would not pay into UEI, in a year, what he would receive in a month, i.e. New Jersey's max bennefit is $490/week. Secondly, there have been instances, mostly times of recession, when benefits are extended.

As for Bob Smith's reply: how can you classify a W-2 employee who has been affected by the layoffs of this soft econmoy as someone who is lazy. Or even a w-2 employee who had worked on an industrial line or at a computer help desk, and because of NAFTA his job has been moved overseas. (By the way 250,000 IT jobs were moved overseas since 2001 in the Silicon Valley alone.) I would not call these people lazy Bob Smith.

Then again, there is an awful lot of people who say, "well, jeez, I'm getting 75% of my pay check. I can pull this for the next 6 months, so I guess I'll start looking for another job in 5 months."

I am from Calif. and went to a unemployment class when I got layed off a year ago. All money comes straight from the company that layed you off and no one else, PERIOD....James

Ok so I guess just cuz there are lazy people that should ruin it for any hard working Americans who get laid off and have a mortgage, car, and a family to support.
LOL, damn some of you guys are harsh.

That's exactly how i feel. Some people even actually need wellfair, just sad that alot just use it to their advangtage and get over

unemployment is necessary and people who receive it should not be put in the same category as wellfare recipients. Why? In order to draw unemployment you must work. If you worked long enough to draw UE than you obviosly aren't as lazy as a welfare junky. At least not for those months of employment

For Six miserable years I worked as a Home Depot Store Manager, once your salary you are FUCKED. I worked 21 days straight, 100+ hr a week. Finally my mom was going in to surgery, mom grandma died, my great grandma died, so I asked my DM for one day off and he said no. So I said fuck this and took it off anyway and they fired me for not being dedicated to the job and that it was my problem that choose family first......Can you beleive this shit. I hired an attorney and there absolutly nothing I could do because in CA. they have "at will" clause in which they don't need a reason to terminate sombody.....

BTW, I was 24 years old, one of the youngest in the company at that position...

that really sucks. Salary can be a hose job. My buddy got a "promotion" where he is in charge of a division for MUSCO. That promotion gave him about 500 bucks a year more for 20 hours a week more work and shitloads of stress. He is going to have to switch departments or do something b/c now he hates his job and it is hurting his marriage

I averaged my salary to how many hours I was now working and it came out like 4 bucks an hour, what a joke :(

If it is welfare why do I have to pay tax on the benifits when I go to use them.
Must be nice to be so rich you can look down on people that are just trying to survive by putting a roof and food on the table!!!!!!!!!!!!!
OH ya I put in 400 hrs of ot in one quarter I am sure you would love to take away my over time pay so some corperate exec can get millions in bonuses!
