For Six miserable years I worked as a Home Depot Store Manager, once your salary you are FUCKED. I worked 21 days straight, 100+ hr a week. Finally my mom was going in to surgery, mom grandma died, my great grandma died, so I asked my DM for one day off and he said no. So I said fuck this and took it off anyway and they fired me for not being dedicated to the job and that it was my problem that choose family first......Can you beleive this shit. I hired an attorney and there absolutly nothing I could do because in CA. they have "at will" clause in which they don't need a reason to terminate sombody.....

BTW, I was 24 years old, one of the youngest in the company at that position...

that really sucks. Salary can be a hose job. My buddy got a "promotion" where he is in charge of a division for MUSCO. That promotion gave him about 500 bucks a year more for 20 hours a week more work and shitloads of stress. He is going to have to switch departments or do something b/c now he hates his job and it is hurting his marriage

Get this, he has the possibility of a 2 or 3k bonus if they dont go over budget on estimates. They have like 20k for under bids or things going wrong that he must stay under. Last year they were over 100k over that on one job lmao. and get this, he has no control over it either. It is up to the crews who are in different towns that get paid the same whether they are over or on budget. He wont sit around and bitch about it. He will find something different but it pisses me off seing it b/c he is such an awesome guy and my best friend

Everyone wants to see some type of degree. The hell with working to make someone else money. Not true, if you can stick it out long enough to get a job with a company that pays tuition, you have it made. Mind you, companies write off employee education expense which makes it a win-win situation for both sides of the equation. Now on the other hand, lets say that your company does not pay tuition. You can still write off the expense and, depending on how much you make, lower your taxes by a full bracket or at least offset other income and thereby get to keep that extra money.

There are guys on this board who blow a grand per cycle on gear.....they would be better served putting the cash toward tuition and increasing their earning potential.

But that is the challenge, if you are good at what you do, you are not expendable. The bottom line is the bottom line. If you generate revenue on a consistent basis, you are a backbone player. If you are a part of overhead, you're definitely expendable. The man on the front lines who is spearheading the deal team is a very valuable man.

Companies care about money. I've seen plenty of people,who've done great jobs,get laidoff,because they were making too much money,and companies don't want to worry about pension,if they don't have too,either. Just because someone does a great job,doesn't mean he/she isn't replacable for less money. I don't think it's a good idea to have to many attachments to anyone. Company pensions aren't guaranteed,medical/dental insurance. You always need to be able to move from job to job without hurting your lifestyle. Nurses,doctors,lawyers,ect are all great things to go to school for

The days of employer paid pensions are about gone....except perhaps if you are a union worker....and if you are, there are 17 million mexicans on their way here to take your job.

Yeah,i like the oldschool boys driving up high on those tractors with the piece of straw hanging from their mouths. Those guys always had some big forearms. If he was smart, he would have set himself up a cabana and a pitcher of lemonade and then hired wetbacks to do the picking. Even the indians....the Colorado River Indian Tribe....hire wetbacks to pick. Now if a 'dumb Indian' is smart enough to realize he can pick faster and make more money by hiring wetbacks, you would think a whiteboy could come to the same conclusion. I am counting on those Mexicans to work for me when i get my own shop You are right about them taking jobs,but that's why,if your going to go into a trade,make sure it's one where you need some brains. Painting is sure as hell out. Mexicans do work,i'll give them that... AND they do make some great food,but we already covered that
