Upright rows?

Ya i think it must allow your shoulder to follow a more natural path. I feel you can pull higher without pain especially if u alternate right and left.
The db's helped for sure and I had practically no pain in today's session using the db's (considering I had shoulder issues in the past, not to mention a damaged left rotator).

I do a variation to the typical upright row. I do them with a with a wider grip, slightly less than I would use when I bench. I bring it up till my elbows are as high as my shoulder. I feel it works the shoulders better this way plus takes out the traps and saves a shit ton of shoulder pain as well as wrist pain. Maybe this would help some folks with shoulder issues.

I have been doing them with an ez curl bar with a medium to narrow grip. What I do differently now is keep the bar away from my body more when it reaches the top. As soon as the bar starts to reach my nipples I rotate my forearms up and outward in gaging the front delts slightly while flexing the traps. I know i am doing them right when the plates contact my elbows slightly and my forearm touch the bar

You could use the short straight bar as well, but have you tried doing them with db's?

I used the low cable with the plastic handles with the long straps. MUCH better. No pain after two hours. Usually the pain start on the ride home when I stop moving my arms as much. If I sleep good tonight then this is the way I will do it from now on.

Yep-another vote for using cables. I use both a bar attachment and ropes, ropes being the one that cause the least amount of pain. I use an ez bar sometimes too but usually stick to cables on these. I get plenty of barbell and db work in on other lifts so it's no big deal for me. I love cables.
