Vasectomy and Testosterone -- Up, Down, Or Sideways?

In theory none. I don't know if there has been a study done or not. I can say though that some men report reduced libido afterwards and some even had ED problems after. I don't know if this was physical (low T) or physchological though.

What effect does a vastectomy have on one's testosterone level?
It has nothing to do with testosterone produced by the testes. It can have a physchological effect since you are swollen and hurt around the scrotum area for awhile and yes I have had a no scapel vasectomy.

Thanks for the responses!

To date I have found posts and studies (some more formal than others) claiming:

1. Testosterone increases post-vastectomy

2. Several studies that claim "no change." This seems to be the most common outcome.

3. I have read a couple of posts from doctors claiming up to a 30% decrease is typical!

4. I have come across a person now on HRT -- he feels it was a direct result of having had a vasectomy.

I wonder if the difference is due to the individual, surgical technique, or something else.

Frustrating, but there does not appear to be a definitive answer.

My own experience;
My test level was ~700 about 1 year ago. 2 months after my vasectomy my test level was 352 :(

Nothing else changed to any great degree during this time period, i.e. stress, sleep ect.

I've also tried to get answers but different physicians say different things. Some yes, some no, some maybe.

Interesting post.

I'd like to see a legitimate study done in that regard as it seems to me that this is an area where there "could" be an effect on lowered T, post-vasectomy....

Will vasectomy affect my masculinity?
No. Your body will continue to produce the hormones that make you a man. There will be no change in your beard, your voice, or any other of your male traits. The operation will not cause you to lose strength. The cutting of the two tubes stops the sperm from transferring to the prostate and mixing with the seaman. That is very interesting that you went from 700 to 352 ng/dl have you had it checked since Acudoc?

What's crazy is the disparity between info given out there. I've looked it up online and found both theories. The doc I went to a while back when I was thinking of getting it done (never did) said it would most definitely cause a reduction in T. He said there was some sort of reverse feedback from those tubes (don't ask me...I'm not a doc) that influenced T production. Personally I think that line is a bunch of crap. I'm willing to bet that they tell you it's possible for T to be reduced because it's possible for them to screw up and hit a blood vessel that supplies the testicles which would then reduce T production. Just my thought.

Yes, the usual story from my PCP- "Well there has been a drop and we don't know why but since it's still in the normal range, there is no need to treat it." I also brought it up to my surgeon who just shrugged his shoulders and said nothing and then changed the subject-CYA (Cover Your Ass at work IMO)

Even with the huge hit my test levels have taken, I'd do it again for the sake of my wife's health. We have 2 kids and those births were very difficult due to the shape of her pelvis. 3 c-sections could cause some real probs. B-control pills have long term effects and she's had enough surgery so tying the tubes were out. Condoms don't always work (thus child #1 ) so I decided to get the vasectomy.

I hear exactly what you are saying and I would do the same if I was in your position. Your test levels are not all that much higher then mine when my doc started me on TRT but I was having a lot of health issues and I really pushed him hard to at least try something new.
