Yea good luck with that. There are some really good dudes here. And there are a good share of trolls/ smart asses that seek no other enjoyment other than to just piss people off! A smart mouth behind a computer keyboard! Ive learned and try not to leave myself hanging out to get snatched up a hungery troll anymore. But Just when you get comfortable another punk swims up to feed! I try to just be polite and speak to the dudes that have some class. It works most of the time. Lol!

Searay, you're making great progress in your exclamation point problem. I felt like you only yelled at me for half of that comment :D

Is that classy enough for ya? [:o)]

No, no, keep going. You've still got a long way to go yet. ;)

I gave up my bus seat up front, so Rosa Parks would have a place to sit down.
Helped Martin Luther King Jr. write his 'I had a dream' speech
I let Neil Armstrong take my spot, so he could be the first human to walk on the moon.
I beat cancer, not once, not twice, but 3x..
I was part of Seal Team 6 and the assignation of osama bin laden
taught michael jackson how to moon walk

You're average boxer who fought in the Golden gloves would beat the shit out of any average guy in a bar fight unless there was a huge weight discrepancy, weapons involved, or something like that. Someone who was trained in any kind of striking or fighting, is generally going to fuck someone's shit up, unless they start trying to do the crane Mr Miagee style or something. Of course there are outliers and exceptions, but this is generally the rule.

Anyone who says otherwise, hasn't been in to many fights. I was a bouncer for a long time, was a "tomato can" myself for awhile (I actually wasn't bad considering the time I put into boxing - I just trained in the winters). I've seen and broken up more fights then I care to remember when I was a bouncer. I worked in a local dive bar, and there were fights every weekend. Generally, there's a few haymakers and a couple out of breath dudes. Sometimes, one of them is on the floor. Sometimes you get a good one where a couple dudes throw down for a few minutes - TOPS. Generally, both of them are glad you're breaking it up - with exceptions of course. Fighting is tiring.

I'm from the same area as Peter McNeely. Most everyone remembers his 30 second fight with Mike Tyson. Every big mouth in Boston had something to say to him after his fight, and he went on a tear through the bars in Boston knocking dudes out left and right. He was a professional heavyweight fighter - bottom line. If you're not a Pro, he's going to ruin your day in a fight.

If Mike Tyson, in his prime, hit any one of us....we'd be in a world of hurt. Probably the last guy on earth I'd want to take a shot to the chin from.

It drives me crazy though, when people act like they could hang with pros from any sport. YOU CAN"T. When I played semi-pro football after college I was an outside linebacker. The other outside linebacker was a guy who played in the NFL for 2 years. He was 6-3, 250, fast as hell. He just looked like he was on another level on the field with us, and he was. I hit him full speed once in practice, and to this day I have never felt anything like it. He went down too, and told me I was a crazy ass hard hittin white boy, which made me feel great. Except that I was seeing the white spots for about 20 min. It felt like I dove into a pool with no water. It was nothing to him. When I watched his NFL highlights, he looked slow as shit and out of place. When we'd watch game film of our team - and this team had plenty of former D1 players on it, he looked out of place in the other direction.

There's another level in all sports from fighting to bodybuilding to tennis. Most of us have never come close to that level.

Well that's my rant for the day...carry on.

PS - never pick a fight with a wrestler.

No rant at all, IMO. You make a lot of good, and interesting points. My psych meds are kicking in, so I will respond some more tomorrow. :D

BTW, my boxing coach was Peter Allindo. H was a stablemate w/ Mike T and would steal Mikes cookies. Of course their coach was Cus Dammatto.

I have always believed that boxing is the best martial art for a close fight in a packed bar. But that is unarmed. I am studying Fillipino Martial Arts, Kali and Escrima. Shit is devastating. When the Spanairds first attacked the Philippines, they put their long swords against the Philippines knives and were slaughtered. Of course they came w/ guns next time.

I bounced for more than 5 years, and can testify that wrestling is also devastating. Had a guy under hooked because he was hitting women. Stupid shit hit me while I had him elevated. I tossed him right on his head and hurt him very badly. I got fired and the bar got fined.

Professional fighters know how to break fall...that is always the first thing I teach. Remember, MMA guys fight on padded mats. Concrete is a whole other animal. We call it concrete poisoning. If you do not know how to fall, and get tossed on your head on the concrete, chances are good that you will be a brain damaged paraplegic.

IM, you stole my Seal Team 6 claim....damn you!

And DYS, you are 100% correct:

So true. Our Renzo affiliated academy was in Albany (frozen upstate NY). So was the Giants training camp. Guys would get cut, and then look for something else to do. I can say with certainty: Professional F ball players (not that queer soccer fb) are at the top of the athletic food chain, big, strong and athletic animals. typically 6feet 3, over 260 lbs, and quick as sh&t. We had one guy, 6 6 and 310 lbs. Having that guy on top of you was like being under a wall of bricks.

At first, I would tap these guys left and right and take them apart when we worked standup, but after 2-4 months it became harder and harder. That is why there are weight classes. I used to have a guy come into my store who did Kung Fu, and claimed that 60 year old masters weighing in at 150 lbs could defeat any one because there "Chi" was highly developed. What a crock.

I have trained w/ more than 25 pros (counting boxing) most of them w/ 500 records, and not the caliber that Jay faced. Remember the tough guy you grew up w/ who knocked out everyone in the neighborhood? He would be average at best. We had a guy who was a legendary street fighter. He would go into the ghetto and scream :fu&kin Nigg$%s (I don't like to use the N word, but that is what he said). He would then fight who ever showed up. I beat his ass on the mat/in the ring (he had 5 professional boxing matches) but that did not stop him from coming at me w/ a bottle one night.

Well, long story short, he would fight any body any time, and ended up w/ a 9 and 17 MMA record.

People I have trained w/ ask me why I never fought professionaly, I explain that "among other things, I would have been a mediocre pro." Yes, I had 20 students on the mat, and yes I ran a clinic on them, but that is normal for a succesful competitor. Had I not broken my leg in my last tourney, I would have beaten the guy at finals, and possibly be ranked #1. I fought some gym smokers (informal fights between 2 striking schools) and did very well. Does that mean I could hang w/ top UFC guys? Of course not.

I too am irked by guys who have never done a combat sport and then claim they could school a top striker or grappler. And remember, MMA guys were usually champions in a certain discipline already.

Here is the way to look at it: 1000 guys will start training in a contact combat sport. After a year, there are 100 left. After another, there are 10 left. After a year one person will become a champion. The remaining 1 is the typical guy who gets involved in MMA. The big problem there is, someone could be a decorated grappler (like Jay) but cannot handle getting hit. On the other hand, we have a strikers who simply cannot or will not develop any grappling skills.

The bottom line is that you have to humble yourself, and put on a white belt.

8 years ago, I helped prep Mike Altman for Renegades. Mike was a very good striker, he was ranked #2 in the world in San Shou (behind Cung Le)

However, Mike pretty much refused to do any ground work/takedown defense. There were 2 other purples at his school, but Mike would not roll w/ them. He was doing well in the standup @ Renegades, so well that his opponent took him down. Unfortunately, the fight was soon over.

Alrighty then, it looks like we have 100% hijacked this (my) thread. I would like to humbly thank all who have helped do so.
