weight lifting belts

Do you guys use lifting belts for lifts other than heavy squats? Over the years I've suffered slipped disc, bulging disc, and a ruptured disc. Seated military presses kill my lower and mid back. Even seated dumbbell curls hurt my back if I don't use a belt.

If the belt helps than use it.I do have back pain from time to time and it feels safer for me to use it when I go heavy on certain lifts.

I've never used a belt and don't think I ever will, and I have a much stronger core because of it.

Not a fan of belts at all unless someone using one competes in powerlifting.

Thanks for the reply s. I have really neglected building my lower back because of pain and fear of getting hurt again. Buy I think I will start trying light deadlifts again in hopes of strengthening my lower back.

Does anyone here use a spud belt? I was reading about it on another thread, I think doc was talking about them. Are they any good for powerlifting? 2Ply or 3ply?

Spud belt will work for anyone but seems to be better for bigger guys.

Good shit Mayne. I think i am going to try this probably starting with deadlift. I will get back to you guys with how it goes. I figure it will take a couple of weeks to get used to.

Up until about a week ago I felt the same way.

Things have slowly changed for my lower back during high volume squats. First 5 or 6 sets everything is good to go. Set 7-10 my lower back is tight and cramping, no matter what I do. So, the belt comes out. I figure the miniscule amount of core strengthening I am missing in those 3 sets is worth losing over not hurting my back.

I purchased a Shiek leather belt and honestly couldn't be happier. I think it's hilarious when guys are wearing belts for bicep curls, for example, but for squats/deads/etc it does make some sense.
