Wellbutrin and Libido

I'm more irritable than normal if my cortisol is high, and elevated cortisol levels lowers testosterone production..

Yeah Wellbutrin targets norepherine (sp?) and that is known to cause some irritability. I am hoping when the mood benefits kick in, and i start to feel good, I will be able to manage the irritability.

Mainly I am looking for a libido boost from this medication. The study done (with both men and women) showed that 63% had an improvement in libido. Which is pretty decent. 6/10 people.

A mood boost would be nice. But if i feel some libido benefits, believe me, my mood will be boosted from that alone

Theres also no point in taking SSRis because they raise prolactin, lower testosterone, and lower dopamine.

I agree that I noted a difference in the generic wellbutrin. That is one of the few meds I can truely say I think so. I am not even sure if I recall whether or not the generic was XL (dont think). But I remeber that this was not the difference cause the XL is fully uptaked in 8 hours tops, whereas the regular absorption still takes about 2-3 hours. The difference is really NOT negligable regarding the irratability considering a 24 hour day. It seems like the brand 150 xl's had a score mark for breaking. Maybe not. Many time release tabs cant be broken. It should further be noted that any tablet w/out a score mark is stated unsafe for breaking as the active ingredients may not be evenly dispersed in the tablet or pill. I have rarely found this a real issue. Regardless, you could consider breaking the 150's in half as the absorbtion time is really mute considering 8hours vs. 3 hours, and the fact that you would be down around 75 mgs. A month at 75 would be a better start to avoid any anxiety.

FYI, I think the welbutrin is targeting primarily Dop receptors, and the NE just happens to come along with it. I could be wrong though. I have always associated NE moreso with physical pleasure ( AND NO DOUBT LIBIDO INCREASE), and the Dop seemed to get my rhyle up more.

I'm managing the irritability OK. Now that i am aware that it's causing some irritability, when I feel like "snapping" at someone, I just remind myself it's the medication, and i calm down. I have read that the irritability and anxiety goes away with time. As the body adjusts to the med.

Interestingly enough, i had a "wet dream" last night. I dreamt that i was boning my gf in a parking lot, and then in an open space outside an apartment. As I "came" I woke up and WTF? I haven't had one of those in a long ass time.

It makes me think that the Wellbutrin is already helping my libido a bit. Dreams are from the subconsious mind, and maybe the medication is helping me to regain my mental mojo. No change during the day though, but it's only been 5 days.

Wellbutrin is mostly NE, but a little Dopamine. Its like 80/20 in terms of the ratio. At least according to Wikipedia.

So there is some DAT(dopamine) effect, but its primarily NE(norepinephrine).
