Thanks man, I’m kinda form nerd. I’ve done some pl training for 1 year back in Corona years but generally I wouldn’t lift anything if it doesn’t look aesthetic. That’s a reason I wouldn’t go to failure on SBD because I’d hate my life if my form breaks haha. Definitely not a valid pl approach but that’s how I like to do things. Cheers!
It's actually the perfect training approach, strength training never goes to failure, always hovering between a 1-3 RIR depending on prescribed intensity.

However you will gradually become more and more comfortable in the 90-97% 1rm range with repeated exposure (95% might currently be a near failure for you for example, whereas as for me i can walk in and do that any given day)

Powerlifters and strongmen if their programming isn't dog shit might hit true failure maybe 3-4 times across the whole year ( tests and comp PR's)

barely benched 100kg for two @81kg unfed

all of the following on Sdrol days:

115kg squat for 4 and a half (absolute ATG, dont really like squatting due to fucked leg)
135KG RDL abomination mix for a working set of 7

44kg "strict" curl
Weighted pullup BW+15kg for 1 set of 6

705 deadlift for a double w/belt and straps
545 high bar pause squat w/belt and sleeves
405x14 high bar squat w/belt and sleeves
335 pause bench (long arms, sigh)

Yeah, my background is in powerlifting so I got a decent little strength base. Deadlift and overall back strength has always been my thing. Pulled 635 at 197 as a drug-free 19 year old. Not pushing deadlift much nowadays, but I can barbell row 365 for 10 with a little body English.
