When to get blood test, if I work a night shift.

I work 12am to 8am right now, and sleep during the day. Should I get my blood drawn for testosterone, right after waking up (around 6pm)? Doctor says before 10am, but he’s unaware of my sleep schedule.

Time doesn't matter much so long as it's fasted.

Other than that, the only way time of day really plays a role is when comparing your personal bloodwork to another set of your personal bloodwork. Meaning you want to try and get your bloodwork done around the same time, each time.

I do want to compare to a previous test. Last time, I got it done at 9am, because I had just woken up. But now I’m working a different shift.

I think you should be fine even with that considered.

What values are you most interested in comparing?

At Kaiser they only test for total test. I’m also looking at lipids, but that’s just to make my doc happy. I don’t give a shit about LDL or HDL

Timing can matter depending on what you are looking for in your results. If you can, get bloods first thing in the morning or if working alternating shifts, as soon after waking up as you can.

The reason would be for optimal total test levels. Doctors will normally have you test first thing in the morning as your test levels will be at their highest.

If you aren't really worried about showing your optimal total t and you are just interested in other health markers then timing is not a concern in my opinion.

I’m legit just trying to put a number on a scoreboard for myself in regards to test. I’ve been doing a dozen natural things to boost it and I want proof that it’s working. My last test was done at a normal time, after waking up. This time I might just do it around 6pm, after waking up. Hopefully it’s not jacked up by a lessened quality of sleep or something

Sounds like a plan to me. If you have been on this time schedule for a while now, you are still doing what is normally suggested which is drawing blood as soon as you can after waking up.

thanks bro. I appreciate it

its a possibility.
how long have you been on that shift?
Less than a week. I rotate shifts often, almost weekly. Hard to explain. But I just came off a month long vacation with excellent sleep and have been doing this graveyard shift for like 4 days.

any possibility of just putting off your bloodwork until your are back on a normal shift?

yeah seems like thats going to be the best way to get the most accurate results.
okay, I’ll wait till I have a day off with a normal day of sleep. Last test I took I was low, at like 450. Hoping to be in the 700s now, with the literal shopping bag of supps I take.

i wouldnt expect anything insane from supplements, a lot of them are grossly overrated and the few that do seem to work only do so marginally.

From my own experimentation as a natural (i had 2 years of bloodwork as a natural before i started gear doing the saem thing you are) fixing my sleep hygiene made the absolute biggest difference.

going to bed the same time, with the same prebed routine, making sure i was getting 7 hours at least, ect bumped my scores up 150 points or so.

i never saw any meaningful benefit that justified the additional cost of any sup.

is your test levels based off of exogenous or endogenous test?

if its exogenous(injected, from outside the body), it is irrelevant of timing.

EDIT: based off of your post history, then it should be after waking

Just reading this ages later, does it matter when during the week you get the bloods? So like I pinned Saturday morning (today) so what day this week would be optimal for the best results? I know if I get them done Monday my test levels will be higher maybe then Friday. (Next pin is Tuesday night). Am I reading too much into this?

I understand that time of day might not matter just make sure you do it fasted. But I’m wondering about the day of the week between pins Yk
