Where to buy dumbells over 150lbs?

Not sure if this would be the right area to post this, but it made more sense to post it here, as opposed to the other areas.

I've been looking everywhere on the net to try to find a place to purchase or even put a special order in for dumbells that are heavier than 150lbs...........ideally a pair of 160's, 175's, and 190's,..........but I'd take anything over 150lbs,.....(Hex would be awesome, but I'm not aware of them going over 120lbs.)

I can't seem to find anyone that knows anything about getting dumbells higher than 150lbs, .......even companies that you might expect would carry them, or at least be able to point you in the right direction,.........atomic athlete, elitefitness systems, etc.

It seems odd to me that I can't find anything out there at all, over 150lbs. All depending on the person, it seems to me that if someone could max out with a bench or military press of 330ish that they so should be able to handle the 150's for a single or double. Which granted, you don't see many people moving in mid to higher 300's and over for bench, or military press, but to me, it doesn't seem like anything totally outlandish,......considering D1 lineman, linebackers, etc.......not to mention competitive powerlifters, strongman competitors, bodybuilders, ..........and of course not to neglect some of the more hard core gym rats.

I'd greatly appreciate it if anyone could point me in the right direction.

Local stores carry them where I am. Try Dick's sporting goods if you have one close. I'd aviod buying over the net as the shipping charges are going to killl you. They usually run about a dollar and pound (+/-). Some other stores are MC Sports / Dunham's Sports / maybe even try Sears. I bought my rack that goes from 40's to 200's at Dick's (over the course of about a year). Hopr this helps :D

damn i bet my guy could get them for you without shipping cost but he is in north east Jersey. wouldn't happen to be from around here huh?

Thanks for the advice bigslick, tried that route, didn't really have any luck with any store that was local, or remotely local.......within 4-5 hours driving distance. Glad you mentioned MC Sports tho, never heard of it b/f, gave me an extra place to try, I have relatives in Lima Ohio, ........unfortunately though, nothing there,....... on the way towards Lima, or close to there either,.........that carries what I need. That's awesome that you were able to find d-bells so heavy at Dick's, from all the stores I contacted it's quite a shocker to me .............I think the heaviest I found @ a sporting goods store, (Dunhams), was 100lbers, and were way overpriced,........almost as much as other online co's 150lbers......including their shipping..........yet another reason why my town, and surrounding area sucks

Manwhore, I'm between Pittsburgh, and State College,(Penn State), PA. I would be willing to drive to north east Jersey, b/c I just can't find anything, anywhere, including anywhere on the net, (after almost 3 weeks of google seraching),......that is a fixed weight dumbell that goes over 150lbs.

Therefore, any info. you could give me about contacting your guy in Jersey, would be greatly appreciated.........I'm looking to buy them within the next three to six weeks, have to postpone it more than I had first anticipated b/c since I made my first post I found superdrol made its mini comeback :D ,......had to lighten the wallet up for that

The place is in Union on route 22(called fitness 2000). I am going to a job right now a few towns from there so when i am finished with this job i will stop by and ask the guy if he can get anything over 150 fixed(fixed is all i buy)and i'll tell you how much. His dumbells ... hex gray small grip(standard grip i guess) ... well he sells them for .39/lb. They used to be .49 but he dropped them and not because he doesn't get business either. This guy is good. i'll let you know

O and by the way .. i wouldn't even know how to get a 160lb dumbbell back home let alone up my stairs :D ... i do need a couple of 100s though i'm getting tired of using these 80s

Outstanding, many many thanks MANWHORE. Thats a damn good price, and I could hop right on 22, only 8 miles from my house.......and Union is definatly within reason......3.5 hours..................drove to Elmira, NY(4.5 hr drive) many a time to avoid getting crushed by shipping on some of their products.

Yeah getting heavy and/or multides of d-bells home isn't too much fun. My last trip to Elmira I ended up getting pairs of 120's, 110's, 100's, 90's, 80's, 75's, 70's, and 65's...(couldn't stand the adjustable CAP d-bell handles anymore, and was getting sick of the public gyms). I have a 2001 Taurus, and I took it as easy as I could, since I was bottoming out over any type of slight incline or bump.........definatly blew out a tire an hour away from home.............not sure if the extra weight predisposed the tire or not, or if it was just bad luck,.......but it def. was a major pain to take 3/4 of those d-bells out of the trunk, to get to the jack,(wanted to distribute the weight more but had a dumbell rack and glute ham taking up most of the room in the actual car).

If your looking to go up to 100's, and not past 120lbs....have space issues but no disspossable $$$ issues, there's a company that offers a dumbell similar to the powerblocks, or bowflex's, but cheaper and heavier than both........here's their site: www.ironmaster.com

Hard to tell by looking at the pictures to see if length would be an issue after purchasing the add on........pricey though........$429, 5lbs-75lbs,.......$179 add on to 120lbs......not sure about what the deal would be with the shipping.

Would be much easier to get them up your steps, as well as with storage..........but that price is quite high. I'm planning on saving a little and purchasing them b/f I move out of state, but that won't be until late spring of 06...........would be nice if they came in higher weight as well. If my luck turns out well for the over 150 hex stuff, I'll have to make the decision next spring when I move to leave hexes, or lug em........yikes  , that would be interesting going several flights of steps at a large apt. complex.

You got PM ... I was actually thinking of buying those magnetic weights that stick to the side of the dumbells but i'm sure those things are expensive. I have little beanbags in my 20lbs vest so i'm going to take those out and attach them to the 80s for now just to add a few more lbs.

big DB's

the best way to get DB's over 150 is to make them yourself. you can go to any decent steel place and get steel rod of the right diameter and cut to length, and then get the really tough collars, such as the ones ironmind sells, for inside and outside collars, then just add your own 10 or 25lb weights to arrive at whatever weight you want. they are basically just like "fixed" dumbells unless you have an allen wrench. or you can buy the dumbell handles from ironmind and then get your own cheap plates at your local sporting goods store.

i have made my own dumbells up to 220lb dumbells with no problems like this. no way you could buy them that big. its MUCH cheaper!!!!

If you're in PA, try talking directly with York Barbell in York Pa. Thye should have everything you neeed at pretty good prices and its 3-4 hours away.
