Where to purchase Therapeutic Phlebotomy bags? [UK)

Hi everyone,

I can't get hold of Therapeutic Phlebolotomy bags, most suppliers won't sell if you aren't a registered healthcare professional / business.

Do you know any website selling them or similar alternatives? I used to do it privately to lower my rbc but I'd rather do it myself. I was able to get a few last year and did it with great success but now seems almost imposible to find a place selling them to me. Thanks

You could import them from EU, they are cheap and easily available for everyone here. They dont come as bags but as glas bottles with a vacuum in it.

A set of 10x bottles for 50€

Couldn't you just put an 18g needle in an empty syringe and drain it into a cup in a sink?

Anything more than that seems so unnecessary.
I would prefer an IV needle with an autoretractor. so there is no metal component

Would need a BP cuff,
Alcohol Swabs
18-20gauge IV
250+ml Cup
Gauze
Probably a cheap towel to catch any blood under your arm.

I've done it myself a few times and had no problem draining a pint if you choose the right arm vein. I never needed a tourniquet or any tape. But that's just me. Worst case, you fuck up and get a little bruising.

Have you ever done this? Does the vacuum bottle not help with sucking the blood faster and/or helping with clotting?

I don't have to but I know am pretty familiar with blood letting. I have thrombocytosis. Not erythrocytosis

A vacuum bottle can, If the pressure is too high you have to worry about a vein collapse. Unless the vacuum bottle was made for a blood draw. Although the veins on the average AAS user are typically pretty big and may allow a fast draw

Or you could just utilize a tourniquet/blood pressure cuff to let us bleed out. Could fill a red solo cup to 3/4 full(375ml.

I see. And I presume the bigger the volume of the bottle, 250ml vs 500ml for instance, the higher the pressure? Or is that not a necessity?

I'm fairly new to this and still educating my self on the in's and out's ...

Wouldn't a tourniquet slow down the bleed?

Both. It helps the body to push the blood out and also keeps it from clotting right at the needle by the vacuum sucking blood through it in a very speedy way.

Have you ever experienced a collapsed vein, as cridi noted? That seem kinda scary, my right arm vein is the only one that's useful and don't want to murder it ...

Some bottles have a certain vacuum pressure in there. I have never seen it used for blood letting to be honest. Mainly for a thoracentesis/paracentesis

The small blood tubes do have a vacuum but can only draw up 10ml at a time

The tourniquet or blood pressure cuff goes above the site of bleeding. To stop bleeding you apply that stuff below.

It allows blood to be blocked or pool below it.

No I never had that. I go to blood donations very regulary and I have used at least 10 of these vacuum bottle sets over the last couple years for phlebotomy myself. My girlfriend is helping me with it, shes a nurse.

Yeah, when I donate blood they also use bags. I wonder how much of a risk/benefit is using this pressurized bottles ...
