Ok, first off, I am THE biggest video game nerd/geek/loser ever, and damn proud of it!

Who here plays Battlefield 1942 online? What screen name do you use?
If you have not played this game, here is what you need to do:
-if you dont have a gaming pc, build one NOW
-go to your local gaming store and buy a copy of Battlefield1942-its cheap!
-Download the MOD called Desert Combat, which alters Battlefield 1942 to represent modern warfare. (http://battlefield1942.filefront.com/)
-Download XFire from google (version 2.0). This allows you to find your bros on all the different servers and you can find them effortlessly!Kick ass program.

Diablo- I was just thinking about this today, I used to play DC but now I only have regular version. I don't play that often, only when I get time and I love flying the planes and shit. I play under the name I2azorI2aider....Guess I'm not a big enough nerd for you though, you'd probably kick my ass. It is a game that actually keeps my interest tho. I discovered it in college and like it way better that CS.

As far as card, if you want to go top market get the Radeon 9800xt. I have a GeForce 4 and it works just fine tho.

There was a test in Computer Shopper and the Radeon actually came out on top. With rebates I think you can get a good deal on them too, or check Ebay.

Hey Diablo... I just got Battlefield 1942 but haven't played it much because I'm addicted to playing farcry with the cheat mod. It's a great game... if you haven't played it yet, you don't know what your missing

I have the Radeon 9800 Pro 128mb video card. I love it. I think for the money, you cant lose with this card.

If money isnt an option, there are faster cards out but their prices are outrageous/stupid!

$300 is more than enough to get you playing the best games out.

Also, up your Computers RAM to 1GB (1000MB). The more ram the better!

What happened to your Desert Combat mod? If you errased it, just redownload it from the site I posted above.

Im seriously not that great, especially with flying. I can only be so good with a keyboard and mouse. Some of those aces can do the coolest shit like fly under bridges and hover a chopper on a dime.

I havent lost interest in this game since it came out. Graphics kick ass, lots of servers (FREE too), cool Mods and new maps.

There is no need to buy the top of the line video card bro, your just pissing your money away. You pay almost DOUBLE for a best card on the market and its only a tiny bit better/faster than the one card below it.

top of the line card will be the ati x800 xt, out benches the nvidia's in most everything, loses a bit of it's edge the higher you go with aa and aniso on the higher res settings. but it also over clocks better than the 6800 series nvidia.

if you want best performance for the money the 9800 pro is still the standard.

ati drivers can be a bit sketchy sometimes, but i just use omega drivers instead and never have trouble with my 9800 pro.

if you really want to be the best out there wait till the dual pci express mobo's come out and slap in two x800 xt's. you'll be the envy of every computer geek on the planet.

I just purchased a Geforce 6800 GT and its so advanced to my old 9700 Pro... I actually cant believe the difference by just changing my graphics card as the 9700 Pro is a very good card... However the GT is the same card as the Ultra but alittle slower... It has 16 pipelines compared to the ATI X800 Pro which has only 12 at the same price... I just feel its one of the best on the market right now... However price isnt good at the moment... I bought mine retail out of CompUSA and it was cheaper then what they are going for on Ebay... Now thats bad lol....

I play alot of WW2 or War games in general... BF1942 with all its mods including Desert combat and Forgotten Hope which is a realistic WW2 mod, very hard lol... I also play a game called Blitzkrieg and its addon's and Sudden Strike series... BF Vietnam.... Command and Conquer etc etc... I cant help it, Im addicted to war lol... I read at least 2 books a month about Korea, Vietnam, WW2, etc etc... and I own just about all the documentaries you can buy...

Guys, download XFire 2.0, its free. Be sure to register the same name that you us on Battlefield!
XFire is the greatest tool for internet gaming. It allows you to see where all of your friends are, as in, what online game their playing and what server they are on. Then, if you want to joing your buddy, just click "join" and your in!
XFire also allows acts as an Instant messenger! It takes up very little CPU power and is meant to run in the background while you are gaming.

I will get battlefield 1942-- just involves dropping by a friend's house. I just got Doom 3 from him, and we were discussing upgrades.

The Geforce 6800 Ultra is teh best out now, but at $600, it is not worth it. I run a radeon 9200 pro at the moment-- I will probably upgrade to the 9800 xt 256-- my friend owns a business and as such goes through a wholesaler for everything-- so the deals are good.

2 montsh ago I beat Far Cry and Painkiller-- last month it was Thief 3, now it will be Doom 3 and the suffering. Waiting for Half life 2 and Quake 4!

you're never gonna get one single answer about which video card is best. some say ATI, some say NVIDIA. some games run 1 fps(frames per second) faster on ATI, some games run 1 fps faster on NVIDIA. honestly, if you are deliberating between two cards and pick the one that runs 1 fps faster on "X" game, then you have issues. . personally i've always been an "nVidiot" because i'm pleased with their driver support, and i've never had problems running all my games on their cards.

like a couple guys have said, if you're not really *that* into playing computer games, a midlevel ($200) card is going to run everything you throw at it. i personally have the nvidia 5900ultra, and it's awesome!

anyhoo, i used to play BF1942 a lot, and especially the DC mod, but for some reason i just drifted away from it, mainly because of college. since i've been a bum for the summer, i've gotten into playing counterstrike again, because i found some hacks for it. i love fucking with pimply 14 year olds! and then hearing their squeaky voice over the radio screaming at me to stop is just icing on the cake. good times....

You are correct however Im NOT BIASED with any... If you read my post you will see that I make it simple WHY I choose the 6800 GT over the same price card ATI has which is the X800 Pro... The graphic pipelines... The GT has 4 more then the X800 Pro and for the same price? Why not go with it... However I see alot saying just get the 9800 Pro or XT however I will say this... The new ATI or the new Geforce series is still like night and day between those... I mean the 9800 is a great series and for the money hard to beat, however if money ISNT the concern and you want something that really shows a different game then go with the next generation cards as I have mentioned... The bro that started this said he was a hardcore gamer so Im sure he is like me in this that I like having the best graphics possible yet not going to break me... The Geforce Ultra is overpriced and so is the X800 XT so choose something in the middle but still next generation... If I just wanted a frame rate increase I would have just went with the 9800 series however I wanted the total package... You wont loose with either the X800 or the 6800 series...
