Who playes Battlefield 1942 (Desert Combat MOD) online!!???

tomshardware is known for their biased reviews of equipment. they get kickbacks for good reviews.

i believe the x800 series cards do have 16 pipelines but they have 4 of them turned off in the bios settings.

even with 12 pipelines open compared to the 16 of the 6800 series it's a dead heat between them for performance.

Rat,

Bro your mistaken thinking Im talking of the difference between the X800 XT and the Geforce 6800 that I own... The X800 XT would be a much better choice then my Geforce 6800 GT however its not the same price... It is from 100 to 200 MORE... The X800 Pro which is a step down from the X800 XT is the one Im putting mine up against and it has beaten the X800 pro on many tests... Yes if you are playing high def games bro the 16 pipelines WILL make a diference with performance and quality... Heck I love ATI cards and was just about to buy the X800 Pro until I found out about the pipelines... Heck I even build my own graphic models for many games so I do know a few things about graphics and the cards... Im not saying what you say isnt correct, Im just saying that you are thinking Im talking about the whole ATI X800 line when I wasnt, I was talking about the X800 Pro NOT the X800 XT... The X800 XT does have 16 pipelines but again it costs the same as the Geforce 6800 Ultra and then we could compare those two... You cant compare the GT with the XT its the GT vs the Pro and the XT vs the Ultra... You cant loose with any of either of those lines as they ALL are next generation cards that beat any card out there now...

ha ha, in my america's army clan we've got several guys over 40 playing. hell we got one very active member in his 60's.

the differences in the x800, x800 pro and x800 xt are all in heatsinks and bios really. that goest the same for the 9800 series cards and the 6800 series cards from nvidia. it's amazing that you pay 200$ more for each step up and it's only a heatsink and a bios flash.

WTF man!! Is there a site that is NOT biased!?? Shit, I hate when I hear shit like this. It makes me ill. Getting kick backs, ughhh.
I appreciate the info though.
So...who are we supposed to trust for an "honest" opinion....IF that exists?

BBB, my screen name on XFire is Hardonski. I may change my in game screen name occasionally (since some dudes kick me for being a jack ass and I have to log back on incognito style :D ), however, if you see a REALLY rediculous name, chances are its either me or my brother.
You can add me as your BUDDY on the DC screens. You know, when you hit TAB during game play, on the bottom of the screens are choices l like "Vote kick", Map Vote, Add Buddy <------click on that one after you click on my screen name from the list of player names. My name should apprear GREEN in game play. If makes it easy for the BUDS to find one another and cooperate.
I will keep an eye out for you bro, it should be a good time.
BTW, I am a serious player mostly, however, as I mentioned above, I can me a jackass, to loosen things up a little. :-)

Diablo aka BattleField 1942 DC Mod --- XFIRE name "Hardonski"

I see all the bumps for ATI cards, and I must say I'm biased for NVidia over ATI. Just from past experiences, ATI always seems to have more problems with drivers, compatibility, etc. than the NVidias do. So even though the ATI may be slightly faster in the 3D benchmarks, I'll take a slightly slower NVidia any day. They're rock solid, no problems like ATI's have. Also, I still see in some game ads "Designed for NVidia" !! I've tried both over the years, and I've always had less trouble, more fun with NVidia. Just my own person experience...

With that being said, for a mid level upgrade, I recommend the Geforce FX 5900 series. For high level, I recommend Geforce FX 6800 series.

Some of you guys are mentioning Doom3. If you read the Latest PC Gamer, they interviewed the guy heading the project at Id Software. The game was written so it will still look good and run good on older cards. With the higher level cards you will get some extra bells and whistles and some better graphics, but it's not neccessary. The game can even be run smoothly on an old Geforce 3 or a Geforce 4 MX card! According to him, all you need to play Doom 3 and run it descently is the following:

1.5 GHZ CPU or greater
512 MB Ram
GeForce 4

However, EverQuest 2 and Half Life 2 are just around the corner and those may require high end cards ;-)

BF1942 was a great game. I like BF Vietnam even more! Fighting charlie in the bush!

Anyone play City of Heroes? I'm on the Freedom server, lvl 12. PM me if you wanna hook up to play.

Diablo570 what graphics card do you reccomend. I got a shit card with my HP P4. I already have Doom III but can't decide on a graphics card.
If you have the i915 chipset then i would definitely suggest geforce6800 because of its shaders which will be useful in future games. Geforce 5700 is good and the 9800xt by ATI is good too. Just make sure you have the 256ddr mb cards though.
