Why arent more bodybuilding contests televised?

I mean the biggest bodybuilding event in the world, The Mr Olympia, has been around for almost 50 years and STILL isn't televised!!! Insane!

because its about as exciting to watch as golf. wait, that IS televised. hmmmm. IDK, both are fine sports but IMO neither ought to be televised really due to extreme boringness (I just made up that word!)

Bodybuilding was televised back when competitors still looked like perfect human bodies.

The average regular gym goer, never mind obese average citizen, wants to watch 290 lb men in speedos loaded with enough drugs to kill slaughter cattle.

The Internet is here for the rest of us.

Think about it, the average guy or gal can watch golf and relate to it if they play golf. We can watch MLB and even though we may not play, maybe our kids do and they enjoy it. Bodybuilding does not capture the general public. Nor is it appealing to them. Why do you think crossfit, p90x,insanity is taking off so much? It captures a more generalized crowd, bodybuilders are the 1% crowd, which is why there is no money involved with it.

I'm heavily into bodybuilding and if Mr. Olympia was on TV a seriously doubt I would be interested enough to watch it for any length of time. After a minute or two I would more than likely flip it back to Matlock or Doogie Howser MD.

I don't mind watching the physical side of the sport ie weightlifting, strong man events and such, but looking at people 'flex' makes me feel like a pervert.:drooling:

Like tennis, Nascar and hockey aren't all boring as shit to watch too. I don't know....I think it would be cool. At least on some pay per view basis.

When I went to the Mr. O saturday finals a few years ago, I arrived about 10 minutes before the scheduled start. I found a parking spot 100 feet from the venue's main entrance. Over half the seats at Orleans Arena were empty by the time it started. It eventually filled up somewhat but it seemed like it was far less than the 10k capacity. If there are less than 10k hardcore fans willing to travel to the super bowl of bodybuilding, imagine how small the ppv and/or television market is.

They did back in the day but after the event I believe it was Franco and Zane competed they felt it was so rigged they did not even air it that year. They talk about it on evolution of body building movie.

A select and almost exclusive male viewing audience severely restricting ratings, now and in the near future, IMO!
:)

I remember I used to get Mr. Olympia on PPV and then it disappeared. As much as I love bodybuilding there is no draw for it. People always say the same thing; Theyre on steroids, its all fake or they become homophobic classifing all bodybuilders as gay. It is what it is.
Little do they know almost every sport has AAS involved and they just make an example of one person time to time to make it seem as if it isnt. Its the only sport that speaks for itself, if you dont look good you didnt put in the work or do something right and thats on you, end of story.

Lol at hockey being boring to watch. How can you even put it in the same sentence with tennis and nascar? Hockey is one of the most skilled sports.

Strong ignorance

The draw would be pitiful. Hell ESPN2 had on the crossfit world championships on for a while.. People can just relate to that because they are doing something. Not to mention that the late 80's -early 1990's physiques were about as much as the genral public could perceive without massive knowing that MASSIVE amounts of PEDs had a signifigant part in their development. GH/IGF and insulin along with boatloads of test gave birth to the 'Roid Gut' .
Hell powerlifting (RAW) meets along some strongman competition -even the non lifter can realize "he's carry a fridge like it its rucksack."
