Wife needs help.

So here is a short story... my wife all through high school has always had a bit of a weight problem. After high school she basically starved herself and ran 4 to 6 miles a day to lose weight. She was 5'1" 180# and then got down to 115#s.

Well we got married had a couple kids and she gained quite a bit of the weight back. But since then (5 years ago) she is eating really healthy high protein low carb and running 5 miles a day (sometimes she does 2 a days 10 miles) along with 100+ sit ups and 100+ push ups. But she just can't take the weight off she wants to...

She is currently at 138-142 and has been there the past couple years and can't get off of it. She would like to get down to 120-125.

Would you guys think a low dose of albuterol or something else would help her get over the hump?

Thx

I suggest figuring out what her TDEE is and tracking calories for a week. Should figure out pretty quickly if it's a diet related issue, which I'm guessing it probably is if she's running 5-10 miles a day.

PS: that avi is hypnotizing

This.

A thyroid and hormone panel would be a better expense than albuterol also.

Sorry not sure what TDEE is? Her diet is pretty simple. I make her everything. 1 egg omlett in the morning. Celery or cucumber or carrots for a snack. Steak or chicken salad for lunch then a piece of fruit for snack then usually a chicken breast with some veggies for dinner. She will have a glass of wine in the evenings to relax...

Total daily energy expenditure. In a nutshell, how many calories does she burn in a day for her lifestyle. Lots of calculators online to get a target number dialed in. Then track calories for a week and see how much she's taking in compared to burning. She wants to lose weight so she wants to be in a deficit of about 500 calories.

By what you're describing, doesn't sound like a ton of calories. But still, track it so you know. Things like simple carbs really add calories quick.

Have her add a short weight training session in a few times a week with a good pace followed by 10 minutes or so HIIT. Current cardio routine she's doing would be good done fasted in the morning. I always like sipping bcaas during though.

If she's not seeing steady results from this something is wrong.

From what you described, doesn't look like she's getting enough of the proper balance... she's setting herself for becoming the "skinny fat" once she pushes through her plateau. IMO she needs to incorporate good fats and lean proteins more regularly throughout the day. Especially for women and fat loss. For example, walnuts or almonds for a snack, take her omega oils, incorporate fish in her diet... along those lines.

She's doing a lot of cardio/endurance...that is great but incorporating other forms of training would be beneficial such as weights. Especially when trying to push through a plateau and ensure she tightens everything up and not ends up with a skinny runners butt that's just jiggly due to all the weight loss...

As for supplements, stick to basics and get her diet cleaned up first.

I do try to get her to eat good fats... she will have a table spoon or two of peanut butter with her celery or apple or banana... she does eat fish once or twice a week I was just giving her general diet. And as for the steak I forgot to mention 90% of the time it is deer, elk, or Mt.Lion.. so it is about as lean as you can get.. we hunt alot!!!

She needs to have more nutrition dense foods... celery is salt and water, cucumber is pretty much water... apples are good for fiber but sugars same with bananas, potassium but sugars... maybe try different choices. Incorporate dark green veggies... broccoli, green beans, asparagus, bell peppers... And maybe instead of peanut butter, get her almonds or walnuts instead.

As for meat... those are red meats...it takes a lot longer for our bodies to digest... I believe it's up to 72hrs where chicken breast is about 24hrs... that may be her issue, maybe too much red meat for what her goals are? I don't know much about game meats but typically white fish and white meat is ideal when trying to cut weight and fat... Red meats are great for growth.

I trully think her issue lies within her diet... also ensure she drinks at least a gallon of water... plus limit sugars and sodium.
