having trouble downloading I think, have the icon on my desktop, I click on the evaluation version, create a new zip file, then it unzips the file and nothing happens. When I click on the file it says winzip not detected on my computer. Where's Meso's computer guru when I need him. Help is much appreciated.

I hate winzip. It sounds like you unzipped the file but you don't know where the file was unzipped to.

No you have the shortcut on your desktop but you have somehow moved the folder that the shortcut is linking to... delete that shortcut and go to your prgram files and find the originial .exe file. right click it then create a new shortcut....

This self extractor keeps coming up amd it wants me to unzip files to a folder, I unzip it unzips, then it says successful, then nothing happens, I try and run winzip and it tells me I don't have it.

This is bass-ackward,,,,,are you using the wizard? Turn that shit off and run it in Classic mode. It should not be unzipping a file when you create a new zip file, it should bring up a dialog box allowing you to select files to add to the new zipfile. Something is not right.

Set it up for classic mode, once you hit " Agree", it should bring you to the normal windows interface where you can select the appropriate operation from the pulldowns or toolbar.

END LUZER :D

Thank you, that helps, now I have a file downloaded from the net(an application )that I am trying to view, I suppose I need to convert it onto word but cant figure that out.

Huh? If it is an application, why would you try to look at it in word? Is it executable or is it some type of document? Or are you just trying to look through the compiled code for something fishy? A good hex editor is the way to go if you are trying to view a compiled vile. I dont like using Notepad or Write or even Word to look at a compiled file because the high bit characters are dropped.

If I try to open the file I then have to unzip, that is successfull, then it still wont let me open the file. Again thank you for the help.

wish i could help, winzip sucks

Why do people say winzip sucks, and at the same time do not know the answer? Did they run into similar problems and just say fuck it. What sucks about winzip? I would think that I just don't know how to you winzip, this is why I am having problems, is this true or does winzip give you problems even if you know how to use it?

Shit man let me tell you that I spent some time last night trying to figure it out, Hoggs info helped, I will eventualy figure it out though one way or another, and when I do I'll anwer any questions you have, having limited knowledge of computers does not help.

p.s. thick is going to love reading this thread.

LMAO, you helpless wonder. This problem is much to easy for me to even comment on. Winzip rules man

Dolfe, are you trying to send someone an exe or are you opening a zip containing an exe and want to run the app? Or is it a self-extracting exe ?

If it is self-extracting, then you run the file and it will unpack itself. perhaps you are doing everythign right but the file is in a path that you are not looking at....in other words, it is in the bowels of your windows/profiles directories. Try to determine the path that it is extracting to first and then go and look for the file in that path after you self-extract it. You could also file search your drive if you know the name of the file contained in the zip archive.

Windows is good and bad. Good in the sense that it enables you to make better use of a PC but bad in that the GUI hides much of the machine from you. It may behoove you to make some changes to your explorer interface as follows:

Display full path in title bar = yes
Hide file extensions for known types = no

Forgot what the nomenclature is but use the Windows Classic interface rather than the web page interface so that you can use explorer as it was originally intended - as a file manager.

BTW, I would also suggest running explorer as explorer.exe from either your desktop or from the Run command line interface rather than trying to sort through 'My Computer' or whatever they call it under XP. I run 2000 so I'm not sure how much more fucked up they have made it in XP.

Best of luck amigo.
