Working Out Muscle Groups

Depends on your goals, your recovery time, which muscle grps you are training. Everything is a guideline. I can do abs with weights everyday...calfs 2x a wk if I wanted to without too much soreness..Shoulders 2x a wk if I could find more days in a week ;) But it mostly depends on the weightloads you use and your recovery. Go by what your body tells you. You will know when you are doing too much--when you can barely move:) Read up a bit here...many member here have schooled me in the fact that major muscle grps can be divided up in the week too..doesn't have to be all done on the same day. I guess we just need to know a little more about what you are trying to do..Good luck though:D

How many times you can train a muscle group depends on the amount and intensity of the training you do. Anyone could do 50% of maximum for a set of 5 seven days a week. On the other hand, the ridiculous 25 total sets divided between 3 or 4 exercises for a single muscle group workouts cant be done often, most who do them train a muscle group only once per week.

So the real question shouldnt be how many times you CAN train a muscle, but how many times SHOULD you. I believe that for the vast majority of people, 2-4 times is the right amount, with 3 being great for most. Volume and intensity can be handled in such a way as to allow this. This usually involves 3-5 hard, heavy sets, but not taken to failure of 3 or 4 heavy exercises per workout, things like squat, press, bench press, deadlift, rowing, chins, cleans, etc.

Omega,

Thats a strange prescription, since some of the athletes with the biggest/strongest legs and backs in the world train them 6 days a week fairly hard.
