After I work out I like to do cardio. I go for 29mins at a fast paced walk and sprint for the last minute with the elevation turned all the way up...an the hole time I also carry two 5lb db weights to add just that little more resistance because I like to feel my legs and calves burn lol..is this to little or to much? I have read that if you do to much your body will start feeding off of your muscle. I defiantly do not want this as iam trying to build muscle not destroy it. at the same time I want to burn fat calories!! I always want to push harder because that's just the way Iam...but im afraid im going to start burning into my muscles so I stop at 30mins an by then my whole body is drenched with sweat!! I want to keep gong to burn off extra calories but don't want to burn off muscle!! any help would be much appreciated!!!

That's fucking intense!!

If you're eating enough you're not going to be "destroying muscle" or hurting your gains..

I can't say if that would be good for you or not, you can give it a try and see how you feel.. 45min would be too much for me..

Sounds like youre getting plenty of food so I highly doubt youll be burning through any muscle. If you were a long distance runner it would be different. Its all about your glycogen stores and burning through them. I would suggest running at a high intensity in intervals. Run as hard as you can for 1 min walk for 2, repeat. HIIT cardio

you need to research sprint training. I personally think this is the best for building muscle and staying lean with the least time needed.

protein is the only thing the body uses to build muscle. carbs and fat do not build muscle. if you want to build muscle you need to eat 2g protein per pound of body weight. your body needs 1g protein per pound of body weight to maintain the size you are now. I do not think you are getting enough protein to grow muscle.

There is nothing you can do to your body better than sprints. Period. If u put everyone on earth standing shoulder to shoulder (naked), the people who are going to LOOK most athletic are Olympic sprinters, particularly 100m & 200m sprinters. These humans run at full fucking blast for anywhere between 9.5-20 seconds, then stop. Then they fully recover, heart rate basically back to resting. Then repeat. If you want to burn fat calories and retain hard earned muscle, do what sprinters do. The more you train like one and just fucking get outside and run as fast as you can fucking run, the more badass you'll be. Just my two cents...

From experience I can agree with the sprint training. I use to run miles at a steady pace for my cardio and it really did nothing for me. I have recently started sprinting 50 yards a pop and 10 to 20 seconds rest between 6 times and I can see the difference in my composition already, 3 weeks in and my midsection is far leaner. I think its far more brutal as well, the first week I got super sore in my glutes and hip flexors. Plus sometimes I puke at the end. But I'm in better shape, takes less rest time between sets on my lifting days.

As long as the cardio doesn't put you in a calorie deficit, you won't lose muscle. So just make sure you eat enough to make up for it.

As for the protein argument, I've made the best gains of my life (excluding noob gains) eating probably 120-ish grams of protein a day... (Edit: i've always been at least 200 lbs since i started lifting and i'm 250 currently) I'm fully expecting to get blasted for saying that but it's true. You don't need nearly as much protein as everyone seems to think you do, at least this is what my personal experience has shown.

I'm still drug-free by the way, I haven't started my first cycle yet just to clarify.

@HuckingFuge and @lsuandy12 ... You guys have ready to go home and pull out the old parachute and cleats and start sprint training again!

I have to admit. Sprinting is the fucking beast! Last summer I had the wife doing sprints with me after she asked "why do your legs and ass stay so defined"? I've played ball since I was in pop warner ... Always a skill position and sprinting was a must!

Fuck it, I'm sprinting this weekend! Lol

If you're trying to build muscle you need to eat in a caloric surplus and if you wish to lose fat you need to eat in a caloric deficit. These two ideas are diametrically opposed to each other. Cardio doesn't burn fat necessarily. It in erases your caloric expenditure which then helps you burn fat. You should pick one goal and work towards it then switch to the other when desired. It's possible to recomp but it takes much more time and is a more intricate balancing act.

it is possible, but even if you do it right, it will happen at a much slower rate than you're hoping for.

bummer...oh wel ima jus kep on workn out and hitting the treadmill an hope for the best!!!

the fat will come off faster than you think if you stay consistent with training and diet. if you want the fat to come off fast look into Ketosis or Paleo diets. you will need to do a modified Ketosis or Paleo diet, cause you will be training hard. which means you'll be taking in carbs around your workout only. I actually love the modified Ketosis diet. when I get back on track, modified Ketosis diet is what I'll be doing. :D
