Circuit training or free weights.

My girlfriend wants to start working out with me. She does mostly cardio but wants to tone up which would be better for her? And is there a good app that she can keep on her phone to track everything she is doing?

Hate the phrase "tone up" but anyways get her doing squats every second day with core work and a back/chest circuit on the other day and she will build the muscle that's required to "tone up". As for apps I build all my own programs with an app called "STRONG" it is an incredible app if you understand how to program a day without overtraining but for general female apps couldn't tell ya.

Nice, you must be a software developer or just like to program stuff as a hobby. Gonna look into that myself and write Linux and Android apps.

I could check out your app sometime...you have a version for Android so I can try it out on my phone?

On topic it sounds like a good thing to have your girl interested in training with you, Jay. Great way to motivate each other I'd say, so start out slow and then get her into the perfect groove so that she won't slow you down.

Think a little misunderstanding there, I am absolutely horrible with computers it's a downloadable app called "STRONG" I defiantly didn't develop it. It's just a really easy to use app and you can put in all your own exercises and sets and reps and build linear or peaking programs quite easily.

Oh i see...sorry then if I misread your post. I am looking for some good apps to log workouts but for now been using a notepad app on my phone instead. Now only if I can upload those notes so I can format them for Excel...

Ya with strong you can export all files and workouts and view it on the computer or put it in Excel form as well or you can export it to an email and send your buddy's your workout programs too

I'm trying brother I just have to keep her from excuses. Haha

She can honestly do the same things you are doing, just with light weights. Gotta get her to understand that she won't get "bulky" or anything if she isn't lifting heavy

It needn't be an either or phenomenon, the two of you will benefit considerably more from a health perspective if BOTH approaches (weight lifting and cardio) are taken advantage of.

But do whatever you must, to keep her active and by your side, less someone take your place :)

'Tone' is essentially a meaningless term, designed to lighten the ladies' purses. What they seek is low body fat so that residual muscular tension is visible. The former is achieved via standard thermodynamics, the latter by high intensity exercise. That's why the gals who do 100 rep sets of 3-1/2 pound dumbbell curls still don't have 'tone' and the 119 pound weightlifters all do.

You're right I guess "tone" sounds like a woman. I should of said loose my big ass beer belly. Guess my question is my doctor will not change on the way she gives my injections for low testosterone is there anything that I can buy that will help boost my natural Testosterone levels. I've still have way too much body fat to loose before I start cycling again.

There have been hundreds of products over the years that were backed by numerous professional sounding studies and an army of strident advocates that 'naturally boost testosterone'. The reason there's always a new one is that the last one was snake oil.

Save your money. Real T is cheap, or you can try jacking off a few times a day, or heavy squats frequently.
