Food Production/Harvesting...

The focus of this thread will be food production including but not limited to the areas of:

Farming/agriculture, livestock, harvesting wild game, wildlife management, hunting, fishing, trapping, and harvesting of wild mushrooms, ginseng, and other herbs. I also welcome the discussion regrading home-brewing/distilling alcohol, kombucha, or whatever else yall are drinking.
Basically if you grow it, find, harvest it, or distill it bring it on...

I've placed this thread in the general discussion forum as to be all-encompassing of the entire process involved from seed selection, soil preparation, and cultivation techniques. Poultry, cattle, goats, dairy and egg production. All the way to working dog training, breeding, selection, game cams, tying flies, primitive traps, flint knappin, blacksmithing.

Recipes are always welcome. Chow chow, pepper relish, bbq sauce, liquor, pickling and canning techniques will be more of my background. I've got an interest in poultry lately so I'm hoping some one comes along that can help me with background in game hens, guineys, chickens, turkeys, etc.

sow it, grow it, stalk it, trap it, spin it, jig it, pop it, drip it...
Show us what you got.

Nice! Welcome Eman...what did you catch that guy on?
This will be a great discussion thread as well I hope, I just started it off with photos bc it was easy....pics arent neccassary but always welcomed!

I love the idea of this thread. Once summertime hits I'll be posting a bunch of stuff. It's a cool offshoot of OGH's thread.

I forget what I caught him on... It was a dry fly of some sort. Funny part was about ten minutes later I was heading upstream and saw a fish just chilling behind a rock. I was curious why he was completely undeterred by me. I was only a few feet away and I was sure I should have spooked him by that point. I looked closer and saw he was hooked up to a stringer. The stringer had gotten caught between two rocks that he was behind. So he was just stuck... I guess he had been caught and was going to be dinner till he pulled an evasive maneuver and got away with the stringer still in his gills. I pulled him out and cut the string and left him go. He was in rough shape but I think he made it.

time to get your soil ready in the Southeast!
getting my pelletized lime out this week for the food plots.
I go 400lbs/acre for my area. Will be planting Whitetail Institute's PowerPlant..
as well as some additional corn/soybean/clover/sunflower patches

Imitation is the highest form of flattery @Oregongearhead ;)

Nothing like pullin em off a dry fly, sitting in a hatch makes the hair on my arms stand up :) I catch most of em off a bead head these days.

image.jpeg Ling Cod. I caught this MANY years ago while I was pill junkie. Damn my calf and arms used to be tiny.

I don't remember everything about this catch.....
(1) caught little fish that's size of my palm
(2) hook little fish with big hook right behind dorsal fin
(3) rig a pyramid weight to little fish with 3ish feet of line so fishy can swim in circles while attracting my lunch and dinner.
(4) gently toss off pier. Sip on a drink and wait for the magic to happen.

This Ling COD was so strong that I couldn't pull out of water. I was too afraid of line breaking so I climbed over the edge while literally hanging off railing and pull up while it was squirming like a muthafucka.

Made fish and chips for many days.

Sick! Welcome nutpuncher...hope you can help cure my saltwater envy. I don't get many opportunities anymore but growing up we used to go off fla and pull a lot of king, cobia, snapper. I love Cobia...that's a filet that eats like a steak!

I have a 32 inch striper pic I'll have to do some hardcore editing to remove myself from the picture but it would be worth posting... Saltwater is the shit.
