OGH you kept some chickens right? Do you know what kind?
I'm thinkin Barred Rock would be good for around here..I need something that can take some cold. They look like this, fairly common I think.

I'm going to raise some chickens this year too. Fresh eggs like that cannot be beat IMO. Taste completely different from store bought.

I want to get a mix of eggs, some brown some white. Some large eggs for cooking and some smaller richer yolks for baking. I'm really excited it..I get them from the mechanic down the road now. He recently quit drinking though so now we have to pay cash for em

I'm not in the farming business any more. Those days are gone. My kids won't have the upbringing I had either. Both the good and the bad. But I'm trying to enrich their lives with the love of the outdoors 
This was last year's fishing trip with the fam. It was a 1st for my wife and 2 boys on my boat. First fish ever for all of them! I took em near a cove where I knew there would be a bunch of small bass just so they could land one each. They were very excited. If I can find a sitter I'd like to head out with my wife every so often. Turns out she likes fishin and didn't even know it! Plus we could use some alone time

About 80% of the eggs I eat are from a buddy that has birds. He has a few types of chickens, some ducks and turkeys. The duck eggs are killer and he through me some turkey eggs to try.
He raises some for eating that get massive. I'm talking thick fuckers. Might be worth looking into if you're wanting some for eating too.

That's interesting. I have no less than 50 ducks in a field behind my house that's been kinda flooded. Maybe I can get one of you guys to come chase after one and catch it for me for eggs...

I'm gonna stay out of the meat birds for now, just a whole other venture I would struggle to find time for. If you get a chance ask him what kind of chickens he raises! duck eggs are the shit though
We only have wood ducks in the mountains. I have to head to the coast or georgia to do ducks/dove/quail. My buddy's dog may be up for the task though!

I know he has Bard Rocks, had some Guinea's but they were a pain in the ass. The meat birds get picked on real bad until they're old enough to walk real good. They grow so fast they're clumsy like a puppy.
He's got rabbits, a couple pigs, and 2 goats too. He's got a killer setup on his property.

The mechanic was in the meat business...he liquidated last year and says he's done. He offered to sell me some giant commercial chicken tractors, Idk just sounds like a lot of work. He raised some game hens n said got so fat so quick they would break legs
I think I've got my work cut out for me between the garden/foodplots/egg coop

I like to put in on the edge of wood, most of the monsters only come out at night, and even then won't walk out in big clearings. Cut some narrow shooting lanes. I try to run the corn out in a single strip parallel to my shooting lane, perpendicular to trail cam placement. Gives me the best shots, spend the extra $$$ and get good cams, even the infrared glow is enough to keep the OG bucks away. I recycle the older cams on trails or to catch would-be intruders
