I have to do 30 days in the county jail - How do I avoid losing gains?

Due to an unfortunate misunderstanding I'll have to do 30 days in the county jail about a month from now. I've gained so much muscle mass over the past year and I'm a tad worried about losing it in these four weeks. They feed you a decent amount, about 2500 calories, but there is very little in the way of protein. I can get a BIT of extra food through the commissary, but mostly carbs/junk food. No way I'll be able to get the 200 grams of protein my body is used to. 100-120g is a more realistic estimate.

I also won't be able to lift (it's the county jail, not prison. There is no weight room) but of course I can do bodyweight exercises. No access to a pull-up bar though. Thinking of eating way over my maintenance for a few weeks beforehand to help prevent muscle loss during the sentence.

Tips anyone? Anyone gone through something similar? Just trying to brainstorm here. Any ideas/info appreciated.

And please don't rail me for being an idiot for breaking the law in the first place. I was drunk and did something stupid, the incident is very far from defining me or how I live my life.

I was being sarcastic as fuck.lol. butnit may be your only salvation, odds are you can find someone to add resistance for you. Ive been in jail once for a few weeks but that was when i wasnt really into lifting but still i could see that there isnt many options. If they have a basketball hoop and you can jump you can do pullups on the rim.

I would try and make sure you get as much quality nutrition as you can through the commissary, try and prevent weight loss. You may lose a bit, but in.the grand scheme of things 30 days isnt much time so i would think if you can stay above maintenance a little bit you wont lose much and what you do lose should come back quick from the muscle memory.i have nothing to back this up, im no expert, just my musings.

Water bags idk where u are but where I'm from working out is mandatory unless you are over 40 years old Iv seen some monster made in the county there is plenty to do squat your cellie

Ya the commissary is gonna be my best pal I just can't afford to blow a few hundred (which is easily possible) during my stay.

And they have these bunk beds in there I could easily wrap the towel around the edge of one and do makeshift pullups. I think I just gotta google a fuck ton and research some decent bodyweight exercises.

Squatting my cellie is prob not an option those cells are tiny. His head would hit the ceiling.

Whats your opinion on doing an insane dirty bulk a few weeks out? Would it be worth it or would I just end up hanging on to the fat without access to a real gym.

Yeah plus i would think most guys in jail arent gonna wanna sit on your shoulders while you do squats lol.

As far as the bulk...im definitely no nutritional guru, but it seems like going from a huge bulk to minimal calories might cause you to yoyo and lose weight even faster, and being in a deficit while not being able to get proper nutrition or proper workouts i would think you would end up losing too much muscle. Idk though, hopefully someone with more substantial knowledge can get in here and tell ya whats what.

Losing gains would be the least of my concerns in jail. I'd be more worried about how you're gonna cover your ass, literally.

I've never been to a jail/prison that didn't sell tuna packs, dehydrated refried beans or peanut or all three on commissary. You'll want to buy plenty of that.

The next thing you'll want to do is buy a bunch of extra ramen noodles, coffee and stamped envelopes or time on a phone card if that's an option. Then figure out who is broke on the deck and make a "contract" with them for their milks and boiled eggs or whatever else they serve with protein in it. These kinds of deals are easy to make as there's always broke people looking for those items that don't care about protein. You can keep the eggs a couple days and running the cold water in your sink you can keep the milk a full day. I was easily getting 250-300g of protein a day when I was locked up. Just gotta be resourceful.

As far as working out make a water bag and fold up a sheet around it and make a handle. Or if you can tie or loop the sheet around things you can do a lot including pull ups or hang upside down and do bodyweight shrugs. Of course dips, push ups, squats and split squats. You can make little dumbbells or I guess more like kettlebells by tying a few heavy books up in a sheet and do side and front raises. You can even sit on a top bunk and put the "dumbbell" over your foot and do leg extensions. Various incline or handstand push ups. There's really quite a bit if you put your mind to it.

Being sarcastic to guy who obviously concerned about a certain situation and looking for help from those who've been in a similar situation.

Maybe we should go into your thread a make sarcastic comments about you or your fitness program.

And just think I was going to be supporting in your cycle thread until this.

@schmib
Look at Jeff Cavalier on you tube. This guy has a lot of body weight routines that will keep you going while you take care of your situation. He's got a routine call 2 minutes of hell, which will leave you in a puddle of sweat gasping for air.

@Perrin Aybara

Great advice bro! I've seen & done these type workouts and they work. It's all about creativity!

Thanks. I've done a few stretches in the county in my life (former life now). One thing about me I'm highly organized, creative and resourceful and I know how to work with what I've got and make things happen. What's the old saying, "Necessity breeds invention?" or something like that.

For sure if you're motivated and resourceful you can do alright with the circumstances. It's not going to be the best, but you can make the best of what you have.

Do what you want. I was being sarcastic because of the mark chang towel row thing. You'll notice after that i gave him the best advice i could.

One other thing to consider is to workout very hard for the weeks leading up to it. Then use the first week as a deload. we all can benefit from a deload, just plan yours for week 1. After that there are a ton of military type of workouts using body weight that can help shape your body. If done correctly this can help enhance your physique not harm it

Soooooo, what was the misunderstanding?
