Blew my back out again. I did it first six years ago moving a fish tank half full of water. Four years later it popped during a deadlift... i ignored it and kept pulling- pain for two weeks. Bad. I busted it about six months ago right after gall bladder surgery deadlifting again... on my back for two days and in pain for a week and a half. I had not worked up to the weight and figured that's why i blew it out. I spent the last six months carefully- EXTREMELY CAREFULLY. I squatted 315 for 10 last week and i NEVER had an issue squatting. Yesterday i was warming up a bit- 225. Third rep i went a little deep- butt wink i believe you call it, but i have these new knee sleeves that took ALL KNEE PAIN AWAY and i was really feeling it. Pop. Fell over backwards. Worst it has ever been. Scatia pain down both legs- definite sacrum injury as before. I cannot straighten my right leg when standing- tippie toe is all i can muster so i dont fall down. No comfortable position to lay.

Due to increasing frequency of the injury is this a get worse and worse thing? Is squatting and deadlifting done forever?

Damn... sorry to hear that boss. I'm sure boys will jump in to help.I'm lost on this one never had back injury, never got up that heavy anyway. Wish you quick recovery Brutus

Not 100% Brutus....threw mine out a year ago doing deads. I hit up @Docd187123 with questions.
I do know a few guys that have had prior back issues switched from back squats to only doing front's. Speedy recovery Brutus.

@brutus79 im sorry to hear about your injury. I've been fighting a back injury since I was 26 and still do to an extent at 49. I hurt it loading a box of paper into a line printer, of all things. I was working out at the time it happened so I wasn't too much of a little scrawny thing. The injury was terrible. Pain in the point of my hip, the feeling of a rope tied around my left ankle and could not stand on my left foot without falling over. It also caused so much pain In my heels I had to walk on my toes. This went on for a year until I had another problem and was prescribed cortisone for two months and somehow that began the healing process.

Now to get to the point of this story, I was able to begin lifting again and worked my way back up to squatting 505 for many years but kept having nagging injuries so now that I am older, cough, cough 49, I just don't lift that heavy anymore and most of my nagging problems have ceased. Now I usually just rep out at 315 for three or four sets of 10 and occasionally do a few sets at 405 for a few weeks until I start noticing some aches and pains and then just go back to the sets is 315. I can usually leg press anything that I want to without further injury. This has kept me in the gym and able to work out more than the heavy lifting did.

I don't know if any of this info may be of use to you but I just wanted you to know it doesn't have to be the end of your lifting. You just might have to lift a little different now. Good luck with your injury and you should probly get a doc to check it out. It was stupid of me but I never had mine looked at and luckily somehow I didn't end up crippled.

Squatting and pulling isn't done forever, just until you're healed up. Your first priorities should be getting an accurate diagnosis since it's a repetitive injury now and letting it heal. After that we can try and figure out what's causing it to recur

Sorry to hear about the back brother. Doc beat me to the response and I think it is spot on. I don't think you are done with squatting or pulling but we definitely need to get an accurate diagnosis and then can figure out a plan going forward.

Thanks guys... forgive my ignorance, but who should i see? Ortho?

See your primary first and try to get some good recommendations of ppl in your area. It is very preferable to find or be referred to someone who specializes in sports.
This right here if you have absolute confidence in your primary. If not go with recommendations as Docd stated.

I have noticed with myself and others if injuries are repeating, then they weren't healed properly.

I don't believe your major lifts have to go away. Just need to be adjusted and treated differently.

Keep your head up big guy.

I have no primary. I am a self proclaimed expert in self diagnosis

Same here. I've been dealing with my own recurring injury since last summer. Nothing as severe as yours, but it's preventing me from deadlifting. If I reinjure for the fourth time here in a month or so when I attempt them again I'll be forced to find a doctor, too.

Anyway, no real advice, just sharing the pain. I hope you get yours sorted out as well. It's enough to drive you crazy when you keep getting set back over and over.

@brutus79 wishing you a speedy recovery... as most have already mentioned, I would seek out help from a sports medicine doctor, even some ART (Active Release Technique) and chiropractic care. Find a clinic that has a full service team. those are best in my opinion as they will work together to get you back on track and will understand the strain we put our bodies through in the gym. A combination of both has helped me with my recovery although I am still careful.

Back pain sucks bro Ive been dealing with it for 18 years now, I got my family doctor to send me for a MRI almost 2 years ago, I would go that route so you can find out the problem

Thanks guys and girl. Guess ill get a doctor- dying doesn't scare me- no squats does.
It will do your body good! Find the root of the cause and help you with fixing it then avoiding additional damage... worse case scenario... you might have to stick to front squats like me and other cripples...lol... it keeps your posture solid and hits several muscle groups. It's good for you and your back compared to others IMO. Plus after the fact, your back will thank you [emoji4]
