I've mined in Newfoundland, and I can say with confidence I made in 2 months what many make in a year. The ups: financial comfort? The downs: suffered depression, lack of empathy towards others, family issues, girlfriend issues, and the feeling like my life isn't meant to be chasing every dollar while hating who I've become.
Be happy. Be healthy. Be kind. When you are sitting on your death bed, those are the three things that come to light, not your net worth.

Same here, every single problem I have is money related. Forget being rich, I can't even imagine how great my life would be making $50k/year. Maybe once I was living comfortably I'd realize I actually had other problems though, lol.

Whatever you end up making, you will adjust your lifestyle and always want more. That's typical human nature.
$50/k is really just a basic lifestyle, it won't get you much. At least here in Canada, $50/k barely making your bills and putting food on the table even if it's just one person and you still live paycheck to paycheck. And this is common here... but unfortunately well below average.

I made $18k before taxes last year, $50k would be a fortune for me.
Edit: i don't really disagree with you. I think I could stretch 50k pretty far though being used to living how I live now.
The days of working on the North Slope and crabbing @80-90k a yr are long gone for me ....I live quite well on 25-30K a yr here in Oregon by scavenging and selling other folks junk . Plus other less than ethical means....Got a dirty deed want done dirt cheap ??

In college, I had one particularly rough semester... I had no money for anything. It was the first time in my life that I didn't have enough of a bank balance to meet the minimum to withdraw money from an ATM. I didn't have enough money to get my own some of my own fucking money out of the bank.
I don't have money problems anymore and I can't say that I feel much different now compared to before. But, we're always designed to want more more more... Now that I have more than I did I want more than I currently have.
Edit- this calculator is weird, I'm not nearly as wealthy as it's making me out to be... I don't think it's correct.

Yeah, I could live well of that, too. My house is paid for, just not ready to move in yet, cars are paid for and no kids. My cost of living is pretty low. The area I live in is terrible for jobs though.

Yea, cost of living is insanely high in Canada. I spend between $300-400 a week on groceries. That's just basics - my grocery list has about 8 or 9 items max. I couldn't survive on $18k as that's about the cost of my food per year. Our taxes are stupid high too... so a person making 50k really only makes about $30k take home.
But in your case, yea I bet you could be quite comfortable where you are.
I remember in my travels, when I was in Thailand - I lived off $50-100 a week like pure royalty... then was in Hong Kong and needed about $4k just for my accommodation for a week. It's insane how much different places are.

Remember we talked houses on another thread... the latest here is that a starter first time home buyer spends $735k on their FIRST home that's around 1,500-1,800 Sq ft.! Absolutely insane! And they keep going up!

I pretty much got blackmailed into not applying for it and taking the dishwasher job. Got 11 hours last week at $8.25/hour and zero hours so far this week. I've been filling out applications, but haven't heard anything yet.

Very strange question OP, How rich is not only an money issue itself.
Today the new rich people think that their are rich bc have X amount but is false!
Then, my money status is so high but really isnt bc my lifestyle isn compatible with snobs( yet others thinking in other way).
I mean, at least in my country, there are "poor people" with a looot of money and "rich people" with a normal life.
So the thread tittle is very strange to me,dont like this vision.
