Ka I've always thought to be the eld way of saying Karma which is also like a wheel. (What goes around comes around). The dark tower is the ultimate goal, salvation after all the hard work, blood, sweat, etc. God to some. It was the gunslingers God. Maybe it's different for everyone and we all have our own interpretations. I've always read a lot of his works and thought "what are you trying to tell me Mr King?"
@ruckin I love the original Star Wars but the remakes were lacking Imo. Never read any though

You guys should check out Ryan Holiday's work, namely "Ego is the Enemy" and "The Obstacle is The Way"

As far as finding a medium through which you can acquire quick philosophical/pragmatic advice on a virtually practical level, Ryan Holiday's literary work is a godsend!

Check him out!

For some reason I had a hankering to read this again.
So for the Kindle owning bros heres a link to Heart of Darkness for free.
It takes longer to watch Apocolypse Now than to read this.

I just got back from goodwill while on a book hunt. I picked up Nelson Demille's newest book "Radiant Angel" and a couple more John Sandford "Prey" series books. I recently finished up Sandford most recent book called "Gathering Prey" which is the best cop thriller book I've read this summer. I don't know why I keep buying Demille's books since he hasn't put out a good one in a while but some of his earlier works are some of the best books I've ever read so I guess I keep giving him the benefit of the doubt. Another writer I've recently started digging into is CJ Box his books center around a Wyoming wildlife game official Joe Pickett and the settings and plots are pretty good and he's getting better as he writes so I expect some top notch books from him in the future.

@Thegreek you've got good taste. I've read The Dark Tower series three times now. Check out Stormlight Archive by Brandon Sanderson when you get a chance. He's two books in and the third should be coming out soon. You'll love it. Very interesting world he creates.

I've been trying to read nonfiction now for while just to change things up. I think he did a fantastic job finishing up WoT it was getting a little stale towards the end of Robert Jordan writing so I gave him a shot on a couple of other things but I wasn't as impressed. I'll put it on my book list though. Now The dark tower has a special place in my heart. King is amazing the way he has tied so many of his other books and that series together. It's kinda a simple series if you really think about it compared to WoT or GoT but for some reason it's just fucking awesome. Roland is the baddest mother fucker ever.

The Dark Tower is a fucking masterpiece. You know the first time I read it the ending pissed me off. Then the second time I realized the ending was perfect. Honestly almost any other ending would have been disappointing. The ending is exactly what it should have been.

So what are your thoughts on the movie? Supposedly it takes place after the books and by that they mean he'll have the Horn of Eld. I'm both excited and a little worried because pretty much every King book that goes to the screen gets butchered. I'm still most certainly going to see it the day it comes out though.

I'm a Tom Clancy fiend, have read every book of his, I'm also mentioned in the back of one of his books [emoji6]

I agree plus I don't think there is any other author out there who could have inserted himself into the book and made it work that well. Even the idea of it sounds cheesy but he nailed it. I've heard for a while that was going to be a series which would also lead into a movie then back and forth but that was years ago. Good or bad I'd still watch it but I have no expectations on it being good. The guy who was the star in the series Justified would have made a perfect Roland.

nice thread i like the philosophy books, evolution theories, history books and novels whose themes are religious like the templars or freemasonry

Haven't gotten in to them yet but a friend of mine recommended historical fiction. That's where the author will take major events in history and create a fictional story line. Not trying to sound like a dick just being helpful explaining. Kinda cool I guess. Most of what I've heard has to do with civil war and ww1-2 eras.

The Stephen King one about the Kennedy assassination was pretty good historical fiction.

I read another one called Twelve by Jasper Kent that was pretty cool. About vampires fighting in a war in Russia in the 1800's. They didn't have powers or anything, they were just a savage unit of mercenaries.

Yeah forgot about the Kennedy one. Actually have that on my phone just haven't got to it yet. Ill check out the vampire one. Don't judge me but I like Anne Rice and her vampire and witches books.

I love the Anne Rice books. I prefer the original vampire chronicles to the later ones and the Mayfair Witches books. Memnoch the Devil and The Vampire Lestat are my favorites.

Haven't read her recent one about Lestat yet, Realms of Atlantis I believe it's called. I actually follow Anne Rice on Facebook. She posts a lot of interesting articles.

Since we have similar taste The Fourth Realm trilogy is really good, too. It's about government surveillance and false terror events to take away rights of citizens with a little sci-fi/fantasy twist to it. Makes you think.

Cormick McCarthy " The orchard keeper"

The Road was a good one by him. They left out the baby eating scene from the movie.

Only on my second one. I haven't read that one yet. Definitely will make it my next one tho. I like his style

Yeah memnoch was good. I like the play on god and the devil. Haven't read the new stuff yet either. I'll think about the fourth realm. Stuff like that makes me crazy. It's like listening to Alex Jones.
