I love the Anne Rice books. I prefer the original vampire chronicles to the later ones and the Mayfair Witches books. Memnoch the Devil and The Vampire Lestat are my favorites.

Haven't read her recent one about Lestat yet, Realms of Atlantis I believe it's called. I actually follow Anne Rice on Facebook. She posts a lot of interesting articles.

Since we have similar taste The Fourth Realm trilogy is really good, too. It's about government surveillance and false terror events to take away rights of citizens with a little sci-fi/fantasy twist to it. Makes you think.

The Road was a good one by him. They left out the baby eating scene from the movie.
The road was bad ass the imagery he's able to create and attention to detail is insane. But it pulled me in too deep too dark for me  Im normally a happy go lucky kind of guy but that shit had me angry/depressed and paranoid for a week or two after I read it. Had to re-read The Lord of the Rings to get over that shit. I was like fuck them baby ass eating motherfuckers...hobbits yeah lets read about hobbits:D Atleast Tolkien tells you the god damn name of the main fucking charactero_O

I forgot about that, it was just the man and the boy, wasn't it? That book was pretty bleak. I do love dystopian novels. I've never read LOTR. I tried once and the writing style put me off for some reason. Need to try again someday.

Same for me. I read the first 20 pages of LotR and decided to move on to something else

I wasn't going to say anything before when I first brought up the road but that was one of only a few books that brought a tear to my eye. I just imagined doing the same thing for my son. Really put me in a fucked up place to for a couple of hours too. LOTR is def a hard read. Toilkien is the OG of fantasy. That guy created society's languages customs. You really have to want to read his work.

Without spoiling too much the part towards the end of the last Dark Tower book where a character sacrifices himself to save Roland fucking devastated me. If you've read it you know what I'm talking about.

Yeah, I know it's a classic and I liked the movies, but the books I just couldn't get into.

The gunslingers quest to reach the top of the dark tower kind of made me think that we're all searching for our own dark tower and that it takes us many lives to accomplish it.

I wont spoil the end either but you know what the first thing i thought was? Reincarnation. Have a good day sai

They obviously hint to reincarnation throughout the series and also the little ending before the ending.

That's pretty fitting. The new movie they're making takes place right where the last book ends. Curious to see how they'll end it this time. Hopefully it's not disappointing because the book ending really is perfect.

I just looked at the trailer pics. I was excited at first but I just don't see how you can pic idris Elba as Roland. He is not at all how any one would picture Roland.

I mean a young Clint Eastwood would have been ideal. If this dude pulls it off well it's fine by me. I'm not familiar with him, but if he captures the essence of what Roland is from the book it'll work. I'm wondering who they'll pick for Eddie, Suzanna and Jake. I'm guessing CGI for Oy.

I certainly hope no one take this the wrong way but the actor who will play Roland is black. In my head and in the graphic comics he is not black so I think that's going to be an issue right off the bat. I saw jake in the cast of characters but I'm pretty sure I didn't see Eddie and suzanna. I don't think I'm feelin this right now.

Wow. Did me bringing up a black actor playing Roland just totally kill this thread. Maybe I'm fucked up but I just can't see it.

Nah, this thread dies for weeks and months at a time. Only a handful of avid readers here. Meant to reply the other day and just been busy.

Personally I don't mind it. The story isn't hinged on Roland being white. If Idris Elba pulls the role off he's the gunslinger as far as I'm concerned.

There's some scenes in book two on the beach that won't make sense unless they make Suzanna white and Eddie black, but besides that I can't think of anything else that'll be different. I bet they leave all that out anyway.

I'm glad you like it. It's kind of slow at first, but it keeps getting better and better. Especially in the last few books it's crazy.

If I remember right. The first book was a stand alone book. That's why it ends the way it does. It did really well and a few more books were ordered. Which then turned into the wheel of time as a whole book series. It definitely slows down in the middle to end of Robert Jordan writing but when Brandon Sanderson takes over it really picks up.

I agree completely. It's Jordan's baby, but Sanderson's phenomenal storytelling ability really makes the last books the best in the series in my opinion.

Learned french in HS due to the region i was in
Learning german
Remember i got 14 hrs a day to multitask. Rosetta stone is sweet

Holy shit. I say unto you sir..that's impressive. I can't seem to get the red neck out of my vocabulary. Took Spanish in high school then worked gold dredges in Mexico for six months.

They spoke totally different Spanish than what I was taught. Three languages is impressive.
