Wanna know WHY Texas is so badass?

Can you cite where you got that statistic from?
But since you asked. Chicago has the strictest gun laws in the county yet they had over 4,331 shooting victims with 3,550 shooting crimes and 765 shooting deaths. The highest in the country by a mile. So does tougher gun laws really work?

Edit: the highest it's been in 19 years by the way. So I guess 19 yrs ago they had stricter gun laws?

I think I'm beyond shooting people. When someone pisses me off I want to use a knife. Up close and personal, look em in the eye as the Ka bar drips the blood out, then pull it out and let em drop to the ground.

That does not support your 10% statistic at all. it doesn't even begin to address it really.

Besides, I've already posted on this line of reasoning before. Chicago does indeed have some of the toughest gun laws in our country. But that doesn't matter one bit since any Chicagoan can go over one state and get some guns legally there.

Put it this way, all a person from Chicago has to do to get a gun is drive a few hours and then chicago's laws become for nought. How effective do you really think the law can be if all you had to do was hop on a greyhound, or your rig, and not even have to stop for gas and be in an area where anyone and their mother can buy a gun??????

here are some actual stats to back that up:

Wisconsin and Indianna are both within easy driving distance of Chicago and both states don't require licenses or permits to buy a gun nor do they require a waiting period.

A study "found that more than 60 percent of new guns used in Chicago gang-related crimes and 31.6 percent used in non-gang-related crimes between 2009 and 2013 were bought in other states. Indiana was a particularly heavy supplier, providing nearly one-third of the gang guns and nearly one-fifth of the non-gang guns."

A Chicago PD report found that Indianna accounts for 19% of ALL guns recovered in Chicago from 2009-2013.

ATF trace data shows that more than 50% of all guns recovered in Illinois are purchased from out of state when a state purchase could be found. Compare that to Indianna where 82% of guns recovered from that state were from in state.

Cane, I like you bro and always have, so no disrespect meant here, but you're dead wrong.

I'm a proud combat vet with multiple tours of duty as a Marine, and live fairly close to where this shooting just occurred in Texas, but I'll be the first to tell you civilians need to be packing heat. Real heat. Ever been through a real hurricane? The aftermath that follows? Hordes of thugs raiding and looting neighborhoods? Better believe I'm protecting me and mine. Your single shot 410 aint gonna cut it against those assholes.

That may be a stupid example, but the true reason civilians need true firepower, is the exact reason the 2nd amendment was installed to begin with: to protect ordinary citizens from a tyrannical government. Your pump action isn't gonna do shit against a trained rifleman, if the shit ever hits the fan.

The problem here is not the firearms, it's the fact that they end up in the wrong hands. You can't limit law abiding citizens' rights in reaction to a criminal's intentions, all you're doing is limiting the law abiding citizen's ability to protect themselves, the criminal doesn't give a fuck about the law, that's why they're a criminal.

A pump action isn't going to do shit against a TRAINED RIFLEMAN but a semi auto or full auto in the hands of a regular Joe who is neither battle hardened nor trained by the best like those in the military is gonna stop this TRAINED RIFLEMAN???? Are you serious?

If you are so fearful of your government being tyrannical then why would you choose to serve in its armed forces and protect the same government you fear? I don't mean that disrespectfully either so please do not take it as an insult towards your service. I appreciate those who serve but your comment leaves me wondering.

Utah has the most relaxed gun laws in the country with open carry also.. The polar opposite of Chicago. There yearly gun related deaths are almost identical to the number of car accident related deaths. Around 250 per year. That's 66% lower then the state with the strictest gun laws in the country.

Either do 40 other states. But after a background check of course.

Air Force screwed the pooch allowing the cowards gun purchase

Air Force Error Allowed Texas Gunman to Buy Weapons

I take no disrespect from that bro. I also served 5 tours overseas. It's a complex issue which unfortunately is threatening to tear this country apart. Trust me bud, anyone with a valid point who states it respectfully will always have my respect. And you have it. Never through a hurricane. The Carolina Hurricanes are my favorite hockey team. lol. Hence my name. I understand if I'm in a firefight your AR can throw more rounds down range then my shotgun or handgun. People can disagree and still respect others opinions. Just like we're doing. Maybe the left and right could try that for a change. But I doubt it.

If faced with an opponent who has an assault rifle, would you rather have a pump action squirrel hunting pea shooter, or be able to match the firepower? A regular Joe with a decent shot and an AR-15 is a lot better off than a regular Joe and his duck gun.

It's not about fear, it's about preparedness. We have a right to be prepared for anything, and to protect ourselves from anything, especially an oppressive government. History has taught us not to let our guard down.

I love my country, but I don't trust any government. Only a fool would.

In my house? Absolutely a 12g loaded with slug. Most devastating weapon minus the big .50
He gets hit with that anywhere and hes cold turkey waitin for the bodybag.
In an open area at anything more than 20 yards def the rifle

Yeah right, they'd have to actually act like adults who intend on solving an issue for that to happen. Maybe when hell freezes over...

Hope you're recovering well brother, your family is still in my prayers!

I love my shotty for home defense, but like you said, long range attacker, and you're toast if that's your only defense. Not to mention what happens when you run out of the 3-8 rounds it carries and the other fucker has a 30 round mag.

I'm for an even playing field, some nutjob shooting people in a church or elsewhere shouldn't limit my ability to preparedness or protection.

God forbid they actually try and do their jobs they were elected to. lol. Zero compromising between the two parties. Like watching 5 year olds argue over who gets the last popsicle. Doing better bro. Thank you for the kind words and prayers.

Bring hearing protection for target practice. I don't go skiing without a jacket.
Hunt as others have for thousands of years, without a silencer.
If you fire a gun in a hallway you should have hit your target or at least deafen them also.
I'm not against guns but something has to change guys. To deny that is ignorrant. It's becoming a trend rapidly to kill random people. Maybe more mental health treatment available would help. Idk. God forbid, If it happens to your family may be you'll feel differently.

Does adding a suppressor to a gun make it any more deadly?

Even a suppressed .22 has a sharp, audible crack that is unmistakable as a gun being fired. It's nothing like the almost silent shit you see in movies, it's just less loud.

As a gun enthusiast who enjoys shooting quite a bit, it saves me the hassle of having to wear ear protection every damn time I pull the trigger. As a gun enthusiast who will defend myself and my family from anyone trying to harm us, it gives me the advantage of not going deaf if I have to shoot from my hallway.

This is all a moot point anyway, as suppressors are already over-regulated and taxed out the ass.

Since criminals don't give a fuck about the law, lets repeal all the laws on murder and rape, theft, etc. a stupid criminal isn't going to be deterred by a petty law....

Executions are on the news all the time. The death penalty has never deterred criminals. Did you already forget your own words that criminals don't follow the laws.

Regardless, you're arguing your right to own a gun should not be infringed upon yet you also argue an even more basic right, the right to life, be infringed upon regularly and publicly. Irony doesn't even begin to describe this situation lol

The death penalty is a fucking joke. 30+ years on death row and the only news coverage is a blip about how so-and-so was executed or given a stay of execution.

For those convicted of heinous crimes, I'd rather see them hang. Or, hell, bring back the guillotine. Tar and feather. I really don't give a damn. Make that a public spectacle. That's the deterrent. Not wasting yours and my tax dollars to feed and house the animals for decades on end.

A murderer's right to life ends at the moment he/she took another innocent life, in my opinion. Your opinion may differ and that's fine. My opinion on the 2nd Amendment differs from yours and that's also fine.

Dude, you picked a state that has less people in it than NYC. Chicago has almost as many people as the entire state of Utah.

Anyway, some other stats you might not know:

Utah is tied for 19th place as a state where you're more likely to be killed by a gun. Utah is at 12.6 gun deaths for every 100,000 people.

What is even more ironic, of the 20 top states where you're more likely to be killed by gun, 19 of the 20 don't require permits to buy a gun, while one, Indiana, only requires a permit for a handgun.

So sure, ill grant you the point on Utah having low gun deaths in total numbers but relative to the population size, its worse than all of Illinois or NY.
