All you computer tech nerds need help.

This might mean something to one of you. Here what info I could find about it.

Ok so from your last picture we see that the easiest thing you can do is upgrade your RAM and see if that helps you out.

Which should be fairly cheap. You can either buy some from amazon or you can go to a mac store and pay more for the same thing basically. It's just ram. However you might want to do some research on what works for macs. I don't see why third party ram wouldn't be accepted but it is apple after all...

You buy those those two sticks and your ram is doubled now from 4gb to 8gb which will let you do more at once in a sense. Not necessarily quicker but it'll allow you to store more in your "cache" to put it simply. (click memory upgrade instructions and maybe you'll see exactly what you need.)

Your processor is what will make the biggest difference in terms of speed so get an i5 or i7 7700k or something if you buy a new one.

If you do end up buying a new computer I wouldn't focus much on how much HDD space you have. Don't pay extra for more.

You have nearly a terabyte HDD and use only 137gb's. 1 terabyte is over 1000gb.

500gb is more than plenty for you.

Also it shows there that your mac is late 2009.

One more thing.. New computers will either have a SSD or SSD/HDD combo.

SSD is a solid state drive that has the operating system installed on it. Makes a huge difference with boot up times and saving/moving files. SSD's are more expensive and a 120gb SSD is plenty if it comes with an HDD that makes up the difference to get you more room.

I might upgrade it like you said and just give it to my kid. Yeah it's a 2009 I thought it was 08 for some reason.

I have been reading about the ssd and terabyte. I have one in mind I've been looking at. I'll post it up tomorrow and if you don't mind take a look at the specs for me to see if it's adequate for my use. Thanks for the info.

Ok so I finally had enough. I'm Biting the bullet and buying one. Here's what I came up with. Can anyone tell me if this set up is good? It's for my business and not play. I went with the i5 over the i7 because I feel I don't need it because i don't edit pics or videos. I'm keeping the 8gb ram because I can add it on my own for a fraction of the price. So once I get it I'll add 32gb to it for a total of 40gb. I'm also going with the 2TB FUSION DRIVE. It seems to be the best of both worlds. OR should I spend the extra $500 to upgrade to the 1TB SSD?? Seems like over kill for my application. But what do I know I'm a truck driver lol. Here's what I think I've settled on.

What do you think @Ickyrica ? If I remember your a tech guy aren't you?

I would prefer going with a PC as they are easier to keep up and you are not locked in to one vendor.

@HIGHRISK that looks like a nice Mac if you can afford it. $2200 can buy a darn good pc plus 27" monitor as well.

I'd stick with the fusion drive, 2tb isn't shabby either. Cheaper than flash. I don't use apple because all of my software is Windows based only and bootcamp or similar doesn't work well but they seem like a good investment overall.

I think those can go up to 64 ram in some models, some cap out at 32?...

As you can tell by the Mac book pro in the pic everything we have is Apple. Phones,Mac books,iPads,Down to my wife's watch. It's convenient and user friendly. Plus they all can talk EASLIY. I tried the PC route not long ago. Got a bad ASS curved screen big pimping $4,000 desktop fully loaded with ssd drive and shit I can't explain. Used it for 3 days and boxed it up and sent it back.
Appreciate the feedback though.

What do you think @RobertL ? You chimed in also last time.

Fucking $200 extra. I'm can add 32gb myself for a total of 40gb for $200

Crazy for an extra 8GB

Yeah you can find Mac RAM on ebay for a good price. I upgraded a friend's 2011 MacBook Pro to 8GB as his had 4 and the 2 sticks of 4GB RAM was $80 on ebay.

Amazon had 32GB RAM for $334.

As usual, overpriced, but that's common for Apple. You'll never be able to avoid that if you're looking for a Mac. Especially new/fairly new.

So putting that aside.

It's a solid rig. Overkill for what you're looking for and what you'll be doing. (Thought not necessarily a bad thing because that just means it'll last you that much longer.. As long as hardware doesn't fail which Mac's aren't really known for imo)

2tb is something you'll never fill
7th gen i5 overclocked to 4.1ghz is something you'll never put much stress on (Good move not getting the i7)

Thankfully because apple products hold their value it's pretty easy to shop and I think you made a good choice.

I've been reading a lot. The common them on the i7 was it get hot and is not needed in my application. I don't know much about computers obviously. People were saying that the i5 would be better in long run for some reason. Thanks for the info.

See if Apple has the imac you want in stock on their refurbished page. Might save you $100-200 and comes with a full warranty. That savings could cover a smaller bump in ram or half way to more ram or AppleCare.

If you do consider refurbished, only look at Apple not some 3rd party.
