I’m new to cutting... my goal has always been to bulk up and gain muscle mass...so I was never really focused on cutting...recently I just want to drop some fat so which cardio types are the best for preserving muscle mass? I’ve heard HIIT is good but I don’t really know many workouts for it besides sprints and doing the ropes...any other suggestions?

Sprint for 30 seconds, walk for 30 seconds, x10

UPDATE- I did 5 sets of sled sprints..185 pounds loaded..back and forth was one set..then I did 4 sets of 30 second sprints and 30 sets walking..holy shit I was so dizzy and coughing during this...def making me feel out of shape.

I liked (well i mean i didn't like it, only sick fucks like cardio) doing HIIT cardio but incorporating things like box jumps, tire flips, heavy kettlebell swings etc so it felt more like lifting weights than actual cardio.

I like doing stairs with a pack on. It’s easier on my knees than running. I’d do 25, 50, 75 and 100 flights of stairs with a pack. That’s how I trained when I ran 1/2 marathons. It for me in shape quicker than running. I’d start sweating after about 10 flights. Each flight was 20 steps.

That's good, but do 15minutes worth, start at 3x per week
Intervals of 30/30, or 15/30 both are good. This is my go to HIIT with clients

For me it's gotta be #1- stairclimber, #2- incline walk at just 2.7 mph on treadmill but trick is not to hold handles ( try it, just 2.7mph kicks your ass when you don't hold handles, and #3- swimming laps (this is only number 3 and not 1 because it's super high intensity and I dont do it as often, but good cardio and also good to work my joints and get a back pump )

Other forms of cardio that rank high with me are mountain biking hard for 40min-1 hr once in awhile ( limited to twice weekly max so it doesn't take too much away from leg recovery ) running real stairs outside, and hiking real mountains

Can't say it's the best, but working a heavy bag for an hour will get your heart rate way up and give a decent core workout at the same time.
I have not used a heavy bag in years. Right now about 3 or 4 minutes would be the end of me, lol

I like to wake up in the morning and walk for 30 mins to an hour(Fasted) depending on how I look and the rest of the day hit over 10k steps. Use the pedometer on your phone. This works amazing for me. High intensity cardio can sometimes blunt fat loss for me and even cause some sub q inflammation, but I am a cortisol-sensitive person. Once in a while, HIIT can really shine but if I keep doing it, I don't like the way my physique looks. I'd rather do heavy compounds and high volume training with a lot of supersets while keeping LISS cardio. LISS burns more fat because you're able to consume more oxygen and oxidize more fat. But some prefer HIIT.

All about what finding works best for you!
