Financial cost to die?

As I understand with age you eventually go into paid care eg a retirement home with specialty staff for aged care then you go into highly specialised intensive care because you are mentally and physically unable to eat, shit or breath on your own then you die and have to have a funeral, burial plot etc.

How much on average does this cost and who and when do you sign up with to book these things in advance.

what happens if you don't have cash and no relatives.

Assuming you don't die while young in a freak accident.

You would contact the respective businesses, the nursing home, the funeral home, etc.

What if you're broke and have no family to cover the bill for you? You likely die at home, and the state covers the bill for a cremation. As far as i know.

Have you planned this financially yourself, how much you gonna bank on it?

@MisterSuperGod

No, i have not. i couldn't begin to fathom how much it would cost if i had to cover those costs completely out of pocket.

At some point, i'll invest in life insurance. At 39, i still have that fleeting feeling of being indestructible. 1 more year to fool myself, then it's nose to the grindstone. :)

I guess that's why we do what we do, try to cheat genetics and aging. @x11 I'll give it to you, you come up with some interesting topics to talk about.

What's interesting is most folks are clueless when asked.

We all 100℅ gotta die but it's like there is no easy way to learn to plan it until you go out of your way to research all the details....kinda weird.

You want to buy a refrigerator all the info you want.

I be one of those guys you read about where the mail is stacked up, electricity bill not paid and cops come cos neighbours complaining about the putred smell from my shack.

Slipped over in the bath couldn't get up cops find his decomposed body 3 months later....his pet chickens roosting in the carcass.

if you have money and a family. you get enough life insurance to cover your funeral/burial cost. probably around 10-20k depending where you live. you can obviously get more for your wife and children.

life insurance is pretty inexpensive on a monthly base, considering you purchasing it while you’re semi young and healthy. if your fat, sick, and old your rate will be higher.

if you’re broke and alone you will rot in some state funded nursing home whilst in a dirty diaper with bedsores until your demise. afterwards they’ll throw you in a crematorium and who knows what happens to the ashes.

I’m 26 years old and have both term and whole life insurance as well as plan if i pass away suddenly or worst become in a vegetative state. my fiancé will at least be set for her life if i’m gone and won’t have to struggle with fianancal burden.

Props to @macabremitch for his preparedness.

Agree with @Cramps88 many folks are reluctant to acknowledge death and likely a preceeding time of infirmity await us all.

Online software makes preparing a will easy and inexpensive. The personal representative of your estate makes sure your assets are distributed according to the terms of the will. Term life insurance is also relatively inexpensive and easy to obtain when you are less than 40 (<30 is even better) and in good health. Both give tangible meaning to telling your spouse, kids and other family/friends that you love them.

There's a lot you can do to choose the type of death you'll have even outside of a "right to die" state. If not married legally appoint both a general and a healthcare power of attorney. Make sure they understand and are willing to carry out your decisions.

If I suffer an injury or develop an illness that prevents me from breathing or swallowing on my own I don't want a machine or pump to do those things for me if doctors agree there's no reasonable chance I'll recover. I'd rather move on to what's next. I've no criticism of anyone who makes a different choice.

Medicaid spend down requirements and their implications as well as long term care insurance are important things to understand as well if you would consider living in a skilled nursing facility as your health declines. Skilled nursing care is incredibly expensive. A nice facility is $8500+ per month self pay in my area.

Sorry for the kinda heavy post but @x11 brought up an important topic especially since so many members here cherish their young families and celebrate a life filled with strength and vitality.

My fiancé and I both have a 50k policy.
If I die on duty at my work they call it line of duty and I think I get another 15k or something.

My 50k policy costs me I think like 8 bucks a month?
