Hot Plate

I am about to brew my first batch in the next week or 2. Having everything except a hot plate. Do I just throw the money down on a nice benchmark digital plate or get one of those cheap portable stove tops (most are induction)?

What’s the best way to go? Thanks for any and all advice.

I have done Test C, Test prop, and Mast E on my electic kitchen stove. Works fine. Just don’t let it start boiling. I add powder, and B.B. with oil. A lot will dissolve. Then add low eat and keep stirring. Haven’t had a problem.

Did mine on my regular stove.

Heated up a big ass pan(no water) then put in on low and placed my beaker on top of the warmed pan.

The only thing that might be combustible is the BA so idk why everyone is so worried about the open flame?

Edit: can anyone smarter than me confirm that this is an ok practice?^
Cause I’m not gunna lie it worked fuckin great.

Are you saying you have a gas stove?

That’s how I was going to do it if need be, I guess I felt like being official and whatnot.

Yup...

Edit: I get my pan just hot enough so I can barely touch it without burning myself and then kept it on low heat until I was done mixing all my shit.

No idea if that’s the right or wrong way obviously I’d prefer to use electric if I had it.

If you're careful I'm sure it's fine, but I'd be paranoid about an open flame

I will say I got a cheap hot plate on Amazon and just barely barely turning the dial on is plenty hot enough .WARM and LOW are WAY too hot. First time using it I turned it half way between warm and low and my cyp started smoking!

Ya, I just don’t wanna screw it up so I thought about dropping the extra on a good digital plate. Can I use any kind of thermometer if I’m using a stove?

Howard stern said years ago that a hot plate is when someone puts saran wrap over their face so someone else can take a shit on it. So there's that.

I second everything that @Evom1 said. That's the stuff I use. Get a hot plate/ magnetic stirrer combo and the thermometer he mentioned. Got all mine from Amazon. It'll be worth it

I saw some that were only like $70 for the hot plate and magnetic stirrer, but they had questionable reviews. Did you get a nicer one like benchmark or just settle for the more affordable one?
