Methadone maintenance

When you were so bad into addiction that you were taking methadone you just do not engage ever into other addictive substances

Like never ever

I was on methadone for a very short period of time, I was still using while I was on it. I ended up catching a case and quiting in county cold turkey. It was definitely probably the worst two weeks of my life. The good news is that was 18 years ago and I am still heroin free .every one that I used to use with are all dead as far as I know, I am the only one who made it out alive. My advice is to listen to @Mr.B66 and taper off of that shit, I know people who were on methadone for years, seems like switching seats on the Titanic. Good luck, hit some meetings and get a sponsor, work the steps, and don't pick up!

You and i have a similar story, every single person i was running with in those days are either dead or still hooked on methadone.

I was talking about the methadone when i said it would prob be awhile before i wad opioid free. I just have seen otherr people on it a long time before they "dose" out. Hoping less than a yr for me. We shall see. Thx man

I certainly meant you no disrespect , i apologize if it came off like that. Stay the course and there is no reason whatsoever you cant do what myself and a few others here have.

" some day i wanna be opiate free but it probably wont happen soon"
If thats not doubt i dont know what is. If you really want to be opiate free do it!! Cut your dose down 2 mg every 2 weeks. Nice and easy and pain free. I did it , no reason anybody cant.
Ive givin you all you need to be free of that shit, good luck!

Edit: i responded to your quote without reading your previous posts. So your cutting your dose and thats a big step to recovery. If i had one piece of advice, dont go down to fast, i had friends that did that and they all went back up and just gave up. I went small and slow and never had any issues till i was at around 2-3 mg and even then i was just uncomfortable, but never sick.
I truly do wish you the best, being free from that shit is
Like being reborn!

The actual taper regimen is the easy part, a good dr that specializes in addiction can help you come up with a good plan. The mental aspect is the hard part ie being ready to live opioid free etc.

Some people just can’t live completely opioid free and have to stay on either methadone or suboxone for the rest of their lives. While technically they are substituting one opioid for another, it’s not the same thing. Maintenance therapy if done properly can’t be compared to someone using heroin, oxy etc. One can live a more productive and stable life on maintenance therapy than abusing short acting opioids. It’s definitely better to taper off but if one simply cannot do that it’s the lesser of two evils. Although if one has to be on maintenance therapy indefinitely subs would be the better choice.
