Smart watches or whatever you call them

I am looking at getting one to monitor heart rate and calories burned. Does anyone else use one and which one? I'm kinda skeptical about the accuracy of them but so far am learning towards the Samsung galaxy watch active or the Garmin vivoactive 3. The other option is to get one through my cell provider and that way I wouldn't need my phone all the time.

If the Galaxy watches are anything like the Apple Watch, you need your phone nearby in order to use it as a phone for calls and texts.

From sprint the galaxy watch has its own Sim and number but receives calls and texts itself from the phones number from what I understand. If I bought the watch outside of my cell plan then it would need to be close as bluetooth or wifi have a limit on distance.

Interesting. I was thoroughly unimpressed with the Apple Watch. The new FitBits are pretty cool from what I’ve seen.

A friend of mine has the iconic and really likes it I just don't care much for the big square screen. The Samsung Active is 40mm with a 20mm band and the Garmin is the same but a 22mm band. Being light and unobtrusive, as long as it functions as I hope are why I'm looking at those 2

Good luck bro

I have the Galaxy Watch and the Galaxy Gear Fit Pro 2. The Galaxy Watch is pretty big to wear in the gym. The gear fit pro is meant for the gym and works perfect. I like it for the timer between sets. Price is pretty good too.

Trust a device to know your own metabolism on calories burned? I get it for heartrate, pedometer, sleep, but I wouldn't trust a device for calories burned.

I don't expect anything to be 100% calorie burned or heart rate but a decent estimate is fine

I use the Fitbit Blaze not really a “smart” watch more an activity tracker. You can enter some parameters and based on a blood flow heart sensor get a decent round about idea of calories burnt. I’ve found HR monitor to be very accurate when resting and within 10-20 bpm when active. If nothing else the app is perfect to have a historical log of all your exercise sessions. Actually has a track mode for weights but who knows how they calculate that. Price decent, I paid $199 but price had gone down since... Cheers!

So the Samsung can't read my heart rate through my tattoos so I took it back and a Garmin is on the way. Hopefully this one works.

I tried a fitbit and it seems to read ok so if the Garmin fails fitbit is next.

I have fitbit versa , I track my exercises ( gym , cardio ) set up my water intake ... every week you get compare your progress .. you see your heartbeat on training .. and like a smart watch get notifications ( calls ,messages ) ... pretty helpful

I ended up getting a Garmin vivoactive 3 it still can't see through my solid black arm but can see through my other tattoos on my other arm. It was the only one I tried that could.
