Let’s Talk Full Size/Half Ton Pickups

That’s right ! Which is why when my three year lease is up I’m going to be getting one for myself to supercharge haha, I wanted a 5.0 this time around but I bought my truck end of November last year and had a killer deal, but honestly man the 2.7 is pretty fast. And I’ve seen some pretty impressive dyno runs on 2.7’s with just an ecu reflash
Pffft 3.5 er go home:cool:
Freakoboost

Haha I’m a fan of the 2.7, 3.5, and 5.0

Which is why I didn’t care which of the three I ended up getting , there all great. Like I said I have the 2.7 and it’s plenty for me, and if it wasn’t I could tune it for cheap and get easily another 90 lb ft tq and 30-40 hp

I’d wait bro, all three big brands are all coming out with new diesels very very very soon, check out the new ram eco diesel it’s going to be a beast! And it’ll come in every trim level
$16k (25%) off MSRP. it’s out the door cheaper than used 2018s.

I’d love to have the ecodiesel, but I’m also not sacrificing interior features for it and I do have a budget.

I go to Stoneham Ford in MA they give good deals for guys in my union
Refuse to drive a Ford. Been treated like shit at several ford dealerships. And they’re everywhere. Not to mention there isn’t really one new one on the road I’d drive that isn’t a platinum or Raptor. Plus, fuck an aluminum box.

That Ram is nice and a good deal. I shop by my wallet and needs. Any of these trucks are great if the price is right. My last 2 trucks are a 2008 and 2014 Nissan Pro 4x. I drive about 10 -15mi rough offroad on workdays and the first one had 180000 miles when I gave it to my son, never broke down on me. My 2014 has 60000 mi now and never broke down. That's with about 3000+mi driving through holes, loader ruts, and water a year. I really have no preference except my experience. I do clean the brakes, wheels, undercarriage every couple of days though and maintain them because I cant drive my wifes car out there. I'd buy that Ram in a minute if it suited my needs.

I bought a brand new 2016 Sierra the black 22" rims suckerd me in. It is a really nice looking truck. It's not loaded. Cloth seats. No Bose. No adjustable pedals. No memory seats. No split rear window ( actually a plus for me)
It also has the 5.3.
I hate that truck. The suspension doesnt have any rebound damping so if you hit rollers on the highway it will dead end all 4 shocks. The temperature control is finicky. You drip one degree, still hot. Drop another, still hot, drop another, BAM freezing cold. The motor has good driving around power, but if you hook anything on to it its pretty well useless. I towed an open 2 place sled trailer into a strong wind and it said it was burning 37l/100km. Its brutal. The transmission programming is junk. It shifts too early and holds the gear too long before a down shift. Then by the time it does finally shift down, it drops 2 gears because your foot is so far into it. The V8-V4 engine mode is a joke. If you have cruise set and you climb a very slight grade, or gust of wind it will stay in V4 until it drops about 2 or 3 km/h then it goes into V8 and has to accelerate those 2 or 3kph again and the milage spikes for 5 seconds. I'm convinced there is absolutely no fuel savings there. There's lots more little things that I dont like about it, but you get the idea. I'll be looking at the other brands for my next truck.
It does seem well built though. I've got 67 000 km and no problems yet. Body is still tight and it runs smooth.

Its not the engine you hate. Its the abnormally TALL gear ratios GM uses in their half tons. They are famous for that. I have 3.20s in my Tahoe. Hate em. A truck should have 3.73s standard or higher. Its a torque multiplier and makes an enormous difference. I have 4.10 G2 gears coming in. Itll be $1500 to swap em out and relash em but itll pull like a freight train. Like my Ford...well not quite. Sorta like my ford:D

Hope you like the truck man! But i wouldnt worry too much about the aluminum panels. All trucks will have em in a few yrs. Its a copy cat world and with govt CAFE standards increasing the pinch on mfgs to increase mpgs it is an absolute certainty all others will follow fords lead.

As usual

I doubt the last part. But maybe.

But I’ve been in all 3 trucks..and Dodge isn’t following anybody. IMO.

Back in 2004 ford started fully boxing their entire frames in the f150s. GM made fun of it. They followed suit in 2007.
When toyota launched the new tundra back in 2007 they were on record saying they studied ford and sought to mimmick many of their frame and axle designs. Since thats where a truck is built...from the ground up. And ford knows trucks.
Ford was the first to offer the deep dish box design. GM followed suit in 2007.
Monkey see monkey do. And the lead monkey is always ford. For 40 yrs straight. Always in the lead.

But your right Dodge doesnt follow anybody. From the design to the chassis setups. Hell they even run coils in the rear...nobody does that. They make their own path. And the hemi is pretty awesome. Even if its long in the tooth. Its a good damn pushrod

I think Dodge realized very few people actually use their 1500s to their max capacity. Have to say, the rear coils make the truck ride like an expensive SUV. It’s amazing.

Jeep wranglers use coils in the rear. Wonder if that was their inspiration for the change?
Coils have an advantage in keeping axle wrap to a minimum and putting traction to the ground over leafs. The Tahoe/Suburban utilizes the same design and yes the ride is pillow soft and progressive when it needs to be:)

All I know is if I were you I’d absolutely do a muffler delete on that hemi, sounds fucking beautiful with it
