Distance learning.......

Ahh yes, its definitely been an interesting few weeks here... Between the zoom classes, happy numbers, art therapy etc, etc etc..We have grades 2 thru 12 going on here. Daughter gets her work with no issues, the boys, ehhh not so much. Just got word that our neighboring state shut down school for the remainder of the year and I suspect the same will be announced here shortly. They had a spring break this week but Monday its back to biz for them.

Education.com look at week to week study packets by grade level.
IXL is free right now for parents and teachers. Excellent site. Search by grade level.
Embarc.online has math every module taught in several states up to eighth grade.
Successmaker may be free for parents.
Benchmarkuniverse has reading K and up.
Let me know if you need any help.
I tried signing my son up for IXL, but it wants to charge for it, do you know how to set it up for free

I don't have kids, but I think it's about time the traditional classroom experience come into the 21st century. Schools cost far too much to staff and maintain, we could hire the best teachers in the country for every subject and move everything to online, drastically decreasing our taxes and college costs with opensource texts that can constantly be revised. Set up virtual labs. Set up testing centers in every community for a small charge.

Get rid of teachers unions, lobbyist and lets make education completely open regardless of ability to pay.
There's so much truth to that and the future holds e-learning will become the norm for all grades not just high school and college. School systems can explore e-learning as there are a lot of open source and free
tools out there for conducting classroom sessions online including whiteboards that students can write on and share which would be great for demonstrating a concept.

Time to prepare for that eventuality.

There goes your playground time dickhead.

Our school system set it all up for free. They even paid for families that didn't have wifi to have it installed free of charge and furnished laptops for their lessons. They even hand out the kids breakfast everyday curbside. God Bless Texas.

They did the same in my state.

They set it up for my second grader, but not.my kindergartner. I sent his teacher an email. We'll see if she can sort it out

Officially official: mostly home school for a complete school year. My 2 youngest will be doing a hybrid of two 4 hour days in class. The 2 oldest are 100% online...I cant wait!!!

This generation and those after are already so dependent on social media, video games, iPads, smart phones, google... it’s sad to see. kids lack the ability to socialize normally nowadays. My nephews literally throw a hissy fit when telling them to “go play outside”. That was some of the best times I had as a kid. No fucking Xbox, dial up 56k could barely support Warcraft games, it made you never want to play video games online. All we had was playing outside in the company of good friends.

if we moved to “online schooling” we will have a generation of nothing but socially awkward serial killers.... I honestly feel like school is the only time kids get to be social... I can’t tell what’s worse... corona or closing down schools and messing with the mental stability of so many people and young kids. I can’t wait until people can put this crap behind them.

It’s a scary time to have young kids at this moment.

Teacher unions might start bitchin once peeps start getting lay off notices and schools defunded. Won't need a ton of teachers for online classes. I would of thought they would have fought for smaller class sizes and more teachers since its a perfect time to push for it

True for some. I tend to blame the parent. Personally I have used this time to try to try and teach my son what school lacks. Take him out to the bush, teach him how to drive a skid steer/tractor. We are teaching (and learning) another language. The Khan Foundation has a ton of on line stuff for every grade. It lets my boy work for a few hours here and there and still maintain his grades while tracking his progress. It is up to us to keep them away from garbage. WE can't sluff them off on tv and media. It sucks giving every free moment but hey that's what we signed up for as parents, we don't matter much anymore. I agree that not being social is highly detrimental to our kids! It is up to us to work around that. My boy may not be able to have as many friends but I make sure he spends time with as many as possible (depending on if there parents are fear mongering retards)

I agree in the end it's on the parent but I truly doubt they will ease up on taxes. And I really can't believe I'm saying this but I'm glad I'm getting laid off because my 10 year old hell my 16 year old are not going to magically do the work by them selves. My daughter's school is doing every other day 2 days a week. With Wa segregation going into effect unless they figured out that was a stupid idea. They haven't announced my son's school plan yet but the options were home school or hybrid.
