Thanks! Yes, it was (bi)cycling. I should have clarified. I think it looks a lot worse than it really is. The joint fine. Everything moves well. It's just a flesh wound. Just yesterday, I was about to ask you guys' advice on how quickly to resume and how quickly to increase the weight for deadlifts after a pulled hamstring. It'd been about 6 weeks. Felt great. And I thought I was ready. Well, I guess it will be a little longer now.Damn

It's primarily love of cycling. It really meets a psychological need. I don't have any limits on how hard I can push myself on the bike. Balls to the wall. And there's a lot of progress yet to be made. I am much more limited in the gym now and must be much more cautious now that I'm older. (And don't think I miss the irony of getting injured on the bike in a silly accident.)2 questions for you I've been wanting to ask.
#1- I remember you saying half your year was dedicated to cycling and the other half the gym? Is this for the love of cycling, health as you've gotten older, or both?
#2- how does the transition go when going from one to the other? Does it take awhile to get back into the swing if either one ? And do you weight train regularly during cycling seasons? Maybe I read it wrong, it's been awhile. I like mountain biking myself and I could see myself doing this approach down the road actually. Thanks for your time

I avoid riding in the rain to be safe. But today, the rain came out of nowhere in the middle of my ride just enough to get the road wet. I discounted how dangerous it could be and should have been more cautious. Not a proud moment.![]()

I appreciate the honest feedback. I love bodybuilding but if I don't change the routine I'll be a walking injury forever. I don't want to be someone half crippled because I couldn't expand my horizons a little, and losing 25lbs at this point would not bother me, as I don't want to be walking around 230+ anymoreIt's primarily love of cycling. The transition back and forth is a little difficult. I don't like fluctuating bodyweight too much. But it makes a huge difference to drop weight when I focus on cycling.
In previous years, my bodyweight fluctuates by about 15 lbs. This past year, I cut back weight training down to 2 days/wk in order to drop a little more weight. This summer I rebounded by about 25 lbs when focusing on weights. Muscle memory is a great thing.
But I'm not sure I like the big fluctuation.
The cardio health benefits are a great bonus. And I'd eagerly recommend it for that alone.
I hear ya. Torn pec. Torn bi. Hamstring issues. Lumbar issues. Reconstructed shoulder. Bodybuilding becomes more challenges. Oh hey a post in the Endurance section! Oh shit, that looks fucking painful. At least nothing is broken. And I'm sure you'll ride thru it.

Damn that’s gotta hurt....I was 20 miles away from home when it happened. I didn't experience very much discomfort riding back. Joint was fine.
But the pain has increased along with the swelling since then. Even more after 48 hours. Prettier colors too.
Hopefully, the swelling will start to subside soon.
