Ulnar nerve entrapment/cubital tunnel syndrome, anyone had it?

Alright so, nerve study done on both arms last week, follow up with doctor on Monday. Significant entrapment at left elbow, minor irritation at right elbow. Numbness in right hand slowly happening more, while left is multiple times daily. Right hand pinky and ring gets numb, left its ring and middle and pain around funny bone.

Thinking surgery is required for sure on left since it's getting worse and nerve could be damaged if waiting too long, despite me not wanting it. I'm going to question him good before undergoing surgery.

Apparently this is the 2nd most entrapped nerve in the body and seems to be semi common. Has anyone here had this and if so, what treatment did you undertake?

I have it in both arms, worse in my right. No treatment so far other than figuring out positions/stretches that relieves the numbness for a while. The stretches do work pretty well for me. They are all over the web.

Mine is mostly from writing code 12 hours a day while slouched in a chair with my elbows on the desk. Driving to work in the mornings my right hand, pinky to thumb, goes completely numb holding a cup of coffee. If I don't correct in time, the coffee ends up in my lap. It's happened three time in the last year.

If you end up getting surgery, definitely post a log here. I've been thinking about it more and more, but fear losing the ability to code and my primary source of income.

Dang, that sucks. I read the possibility of permanent nerve is high the longer it goes on. I'll try non surgical treatment if available, however if it's just buying me time and nothing more, I'd rather get it fixed for good.

I'll definitely post the follow up from my doctor. Both have been getting worse and I've been really trying to avoid problem positions. More to come.

Is this a euphemism for watching porn and masturbating?

I'm not sure if I had actual "entrapment"? But I did have severe ulnar nerve pain in my right arm... Felt like I had banged my funny bone hard and the pain just never subsided.

I figured out it was from poor shoulder mobility in combination with squats and then pressing movements aggravated it further. Growth hormone also contributed quite a bit.

Anyways, that was all beside the point. What helped me more than anything was voodoo floss and stretches. I actually attribute a lot of the relief to voodoo floss... I really didn't expect much and I don't know the exact MOA that provided the relief but it got me back on track pretty quick.

Relatively similar.
Compressed spine and a vertebrae out of place caused it for me.
Numbness, loss of feeling/ability to grip in my left arm.
Intensive Physio and Deadlifts helped build everything up and it's not so bad anymore.

But I've been advised its temporary and surgery is the only REAL long term solution

I had it in the extreme in the left arm and hand. --No idea what caused it.

The first week there was bad pain from the elbow through the little and ring finger. After that the severity of the pain went away, but it was still very uncomfortable. I lost all strength in my hand. --Could not play guitar at all any more. Obviously deadlifts were out of the question.

I did exercises recommended online, and took vitamin B6. --Didn't help. I was constantly stretching the fingers back just to try to relieve the tight, numb, painful feeling.--Never saw a doctor.

After a full year it finally seemed like it was getting better. --Took about two years to really subside and longer than that to start regaining strength in the hand.

Some people report bad results from surgery, so that's something to consider. I have always believed the body can heal itself; sometimes it just takes a lot longer than we want. You have my total empathy, because CTS just plain SUCKS.

Have it in my right wrist from all the movement of computer mice (IT guy as well). Surgery is on my hotlist but lately acupuncture been a help in easing it.

Also bought new ergonomic chair as well as a trackball mouse for my home office to minimize wrist movements.

Never could get used to a trackball sitting on my desk. But I got one of these I'm able to hang on to it and type at the same time. Still not as fast as a mouse, but it doesn't put any stress on the wrist.

I had to get surgery to decompress my ulnar nerve at the elbow. Was pretty bad with the numbness, the pinky and ring finger barely moved and were all clawed up. Any contact I made with the hand/arm I’d get an irritating shock, and to top it off the muscle in the area between my thumb and index finger wasted so much that it looked like it caved in.

Surgery fixed the problem, might be like 0.5-1% less feeling in the pinky finger on that side vs the other but I don’t notice it. Tbh I had a good orthopedic/sports medicine dr, and while my elbow looked like it was hit with a bat the surgery was pretty painless. Didn’t need to touch the roxies they prescribed. Tried a little physical therapy before but the drs and the therapists were like surgery I’d your only option. Mine was pretty jacked up tho, to the point I really couldn’t even write.

PT seems to think my ulnar nerve in my right arm may be impinged. I have pain right at the elbow on the inside, ring and pinky fingers numb depending on elbow position. Elbow pain more when bent hurts to straighten out but better once straight. Actually left is not as bad only the numbness when elbow bent but no pain.

Sounds exactly like my left arm. It probably also hurts to clinch your fist when the arm is bent.

Update. Been out of gym for 5 months now, in hopes the issue would resolve. The numbness is pretty much gone with random bouts when arm is bent too long. But still pain when clinching my fist and the arm is bent.

Looks like surgery may be the only way to get it fixed. Cut some branches with a chainsaw earlier and the weight of that aggravated it. The Joy's of getting old.

Had both done, recently: scoped (spurs and floating bodies removed) and decompression of and channel the ulnar nerve. Day surgery. Out of ace bandage (no splint) in a week. 'You can do it if it doesn't hurt' at three weeks.

If that's all you need and you have the coin, it's a nothing deal if it's affecting your function.

I had to have my UCL reattached and a torn muscle stitched up in my R elbow. That's a whole different ballgame. (The goal is 100% at six months from cut. We shall see.)

Your Right elbow sounds like a serious repair, wow. My surgery would be covered by insurance, but it's not affecting my daily life now (yet). I'm looking into gynecomastia surgery now so that's taking precedence atm.

I'll just monitor my arm to see if it gets worse. After gyno surgery, going to get back into lifting and if it gets worse with training, I'll schedule an appointment for the surgery then.

My insurance did also, at the end of the year, so very little out of pocket. Still, both elbows combined billed out at just under $100k. I'm trying to thrash this 'new set' AMA as we speak. Ha

- Make sure you have a spotter than knows WTF they're doing. If you don't know how to spot...don't fucking offer! Bad spot with pretty good weight on the bench press trashed my elbow before i could drop the bar for two.
