Worf's 1st meet log

That first part is exactly why I no longer compete in raw classic.

Congrats breaking the 1400lbs barrier. I'd take the next year off competing if I were you. Get your body comp where you want it with no worries about your lifts, heal up, then rebuild from a lower bodyweight.
Personally I don’t think I want to keep doing meets solo. I need a handler at this point. I was trying to help all the girls and light weight guys warm up. I was running the mono in the warm up and fucked myself on time. Self wrapping is a fucking bitch and the bench hand offs weren’t the best. I’ve got another baby on the way so I’m definitely not competing for at least 6-9 months. I think staying at 220 is my goal but getting to 210 and rolling into the meet at 219 is far better than being 230 and cutting to 200

I’ve done probably 5 bench comps and three full pl meets. I was a natty at the time for my pl meets and all I can say is wow. I was so tired both mentally and physically. When my simple mind looks back on that experience I say to myself why not train that way. I mean warm up then hit nine lifts? Max intensity for a few days a week should be plenty for an old man like me. My point is competitive powerlifting is not for the faint of heart so just doing a meet is no cake walk. Congrats again on the meet and congratulations on Lil Worf. :) That’s awesome amigo.

Congrats in the little fella
Congrats in the meet too
Maybe not the numbers you wanted, but you put more weight on the bar in a stressful scenario, I'd say that's a win

Holy shit my shoulders and biceps are fried. Between squats and bench at the meet, and wrapping my knees. My upper body is a mess. Low back is a little sore too but not terrible. I’ll probably be using the SSB for a bit or even squatting high bar. May switch around my training and do some stuff on my own a little more. Instead of training with the group. The stuff they do is great for volume but anything else it’s not specialized enough for me depending on where I’m at. Honestly I could probably just fuck around for the next few months and just try to drop a few lbs.

Yeah, I figured you must be totally fried after the meet.
How are the knees after the punishing them?

Not bad at all. The stem cell/prp is definitely paying off. Also could be it’s because I wore wraps or it’s just heavy singles. I’ll be doing some very lightweight stuff with an SSB later this week for higher reps. I’ll see how it goes. Probably won’t mess with the wraps for a while. I do have a couple new pair I’d like to play with and test out. Also have some that I bought last prep and haven’t used much.

Here's the best comparison I've got of a regular gym bar versus a Texas Deadlift Bar with similar weight from similar angles.

You can see the difference in how much the bar bends. If you do it right it can give you a slightly better starting position to pull from. You won't really notice much of anything until well into the 500's to start getting the bar flex. It's a slightly smaller diameter and a little longer length.

That’s a ton of difference. I just recently learned about all the different bars hanging in the powerlifting section. Lots of new things going on. For me anyways. Thanks for the pics.

Still feeling like trash. That meet took its toll. I was planning on doing a semi heavy SSB single at 395. I walked it out and said nope, not today. Probably continue with some lighter stuff until I get my nerves back

Gotta know when to hold em and know when to fold em. I'm to the same point if anything feels off I'm done for the day too. As unhardcore as it sounds it gets more important as you get older.

You can fuck up with it too. You could grip and rip it and have the whip make you miss the lift if you aren't used to it.
I think it’s especially critical with sumo. Dudes who try and rip off the floor too aggressively loose it at lock out all the time. Bar whip pulls it out of their hands or they loose balance and mis that groove.
