Oregon Measure 110

I came across this tonight. I think regardless of political views on the subject, its very interesting. Could have a direct effect on those forum members residing in the state of oregon, steroids being a controlled substance. Just thought I'd share.

How it Works

Instead of arresting people for possession of small amounts of drugs, Measure 110 will greatly expand access to drug treatment and recovery services for anyone who wants and needs them, paid for by existing marijuana tax money. This includes:

1. Establishing Addiction Recovery Centers throughout the state to immediately assess the needs of people who use drugs, and link them to treatment, care and services. These centers can be housed in or operated by existing qualified providers.

2. Increasing the availability of services, including:

  • Treatment that is evidence-based, trauma-informed, culturally responsive and patient-centered;
  • Peer support and recovery services so people are able to remain clean and sober;
  • Housing (stabilizing and transitional) for persons with substance use disorder;
  • Harm reduction interventions including overdose prevention education, access to naloxone hydrochloride and other drug education and outreach.

This Act does not legalize any drugs.

It removes criminal penalties for low-level possession of all drugs, currently classified as misdemeanors, replacing them with a fine. These fines can be waived by being evaluated at Addiction Recovery Centers, which will be made available in all parts of the state, 24 hours a day.

  • No change is made in the criminal code for delivery, manufacture, and other commercial drug offenses. These offenses will remain a crime.
  • No change is made for other crimes that may be associated with drug use, such as driving under the influence and theft.

You can have 2 to 3 grams of whatever in most WA counties. Look at the homeless population spike in Seattle now.

I suspect that's much more to do with the insane cost of living than with decriminalizing possession of small amounts of drugs.

Every large population centre with a high cost of living has a high homeless population.

I'd vote yes, too, but I was just pointing out that Oregon was already pretty lenient when it comes to drug offenses. Steroid possession became a felony in many states when the feds moved it to Schedule III.

Injecting male hormones shouldnt be a Schedule III felony , I think most us can agree. Im not so hot about meth and heroin being legal , we would have to see how that works....:eek:

I am against the War on Drugs and all of the consequences it has brought us in terms of bigger government and erosion of the Fourth and Second Amendments. Have the FDA regulate drugs for purity and dosage (truth in labelling) and sell them over the counter. Just my two cents.

Look at Portugal, they have decriminalised everythjng and they are doing pretty fine, I would say much better then any country that keep arresting their citizens for small amounts of drugs.

The problem with possession of personal use amounts is that most steroid users have far more than what the state assumes is personal use. So if you order raws your fucked, if you have more than a couple of vials you're fucked.

If society really wants a war on drugs and not just on people, then they would simply confiscate the drugs and destroy them, leaving no criminal record for the perpetrator, but that isn't the case, the WOD is a sadistic witch hunt where we collect as many victims as possible and put them through the system to justify 30% of most state budgets through LE, Courts, Jails and Prisons. Then they are released with a digital record for life where they will have problems with employment if they need a background check or want to go onto higher education or be accepted for job training.

How aas effects society is beyond, these aren't narcotics, we aren't intoxicated we are instead optimized, stronger, faster, fitter then most of society and for that we are felons. This makes no sense at all how we were included in this mess.

But how is the private prison system going to make billions off of human suffering if you deprive them of their cash cows?
Actually Oregon has that covered pretty well with Measure 11, Mandatory minimums with no chance of early release. It's increased the average sentence length from about 35 months to 50+ months in the last decade, As well as grown their state prison population by over 2,000 inmates.

But wait there's more! They even have a "repeat methamphetamine offender" law, Where they add 13+ months to the sentence of any felony offender caught with meth at the time of the crime.

All these laws were supported and passed almost exclusively by Democrats. Our buddy Phil knight, Founder of Nike was the biggest donor to the Measure 11 campaign.

The Democrat governor, Kate Brown, Has not used any executive power to lessen a single felony sentence.

Gooooo Oregon!

This is the core problem. Why do people not see the WOD is a complete failure.

No matter what you outlaw people will do it. You ban guns, people will cnc there own or buy parts and assemble it themselves.

You ban abortions there will still be hundreds of thousand of illegal abortions.

You ban drugs and not a single person that wants drugs will have any difficulty in finding them.

I've talked to people that have been through the horrors of incarceration for drugs and only drugs, these were people that just had a drug problem, why destroy their lives with a record where they can't get a job. What do you say to guy that wants to work, but got busted with some meth he no longer uses and yet society will demonize him for the rest of his adult life. This is pure evil.

It's so simple, if you catch someone with drugs whether that be a gram or hundred thousand grams, you simply confiscate the drugs and destroy them. Then you give them a card that will link them to help if they feel they need it, with education, job training, employment, psychiatry ect. Don't put them on the digital plantation and ruin their lives.
