BMI scale.

What are your feelings regarding the BMI scale, and how seriously should the numbers it spits out be taken?

For my height and weight, i'm considered obese with a BMI of 33.3. However, the recommendations for ideal weight do not inspire me with confidence.

At the lower end (111 lbs) i would look like an Ethiopian. At the higher end (150 lbs) i just look like an average sack of flesh. i guess it's more realistic than the lower end though.

You can check yours here. Tell me what you think of the results.

I don't think it should be taken seriously in the sense that just because it says you're obese doesn't necessarily mean you are.

However, I do think it should be taken seriously in the sense that those with a high BMI tend to die at an earlier age. Being bigger usually isn't healthy.

I got a 28.5, just overweight for me 1.5 below the obesity threshold. I agree with what eman said.

Apparently I'm a fat fuck according to their math.

They said I should be around 140-179

I'd be a skinny somalian incel at that weight

28.9 Lol they say I should be 149-199. This has to be for people who don't lift weights. Last time I was under 200 was sophomore year in hs.

That was my thought too, but it's body MASS index which to me means overall bodyweight, but their ideal weights, especially on the low end are just ridiculous.

If I remember correctly BMI is a statistic for large populations. It’s not useful for determining anything about an individual.

I’m 73” and 246 lbs (with barely visible abs). Mine was 32.2, low end 140, high end 189. Last time I was under 190 was in 2007, my first full year in the USMC.

I think it’s a decent scale for non-weight lifters (those that do not pursue actual muscle growth anyways), but they use BMI scales in the military and it is detrimental to a lot of very muscular guys.

I had a buddy with a full on 6-pack in the corps and they made him lose like 20 lbs or something to reenlist simply because he was over the maximum weight criteria (I think he was 230 but had to be under 208). But there was plenty of skinny-fat or just fat fucks that got to reenlist without changing body composition at all.
