Hi Guys
im getting a tattoo on my upper arm. How soon after getting my tattoo can I train arms and shoulders? The artist says 3 days but he doesnt look like he ever lifted a weight in his life.

I’d Atleast give it a day. I have two sleeves and have worked out shortly after (in my own home gym).

just remember you have a giant open wound on your arm. The gyms dirty and nobody there wants to touch the goo coming off your wound. If I was too impatient to wait (waiting is the right call) I’d clean it thoroughly, apply my tattoo goo ointment or choice, and wrap it up fully in a medical bandage, after my workout I’d throw it all away and clean it again.

also just because he hasn’t lifted a weight before doesn’t exclude him being knowledgeable.. he is (hopefully) a professional artist, that means his livelihood is tattoos.. so he might know what a tattoo needs.

*edit misunderstood original post*

Give it 2-3 days.. if you get a solid pump and you haven't healed you can blow the ink out and then you'll have permanent ink blow outs making your tattoo look like shit. Considering the cost and the fact it's permanent.. why push your luck over 1 training sesh

I have no problem waiting 3 days as the artist said. I actually thought 3 days wasnt enough time. I was worried about what the other poster said about “ getting a pump” and ruining the art because of a pump.
3 days is definitely enough time to do arms And get a pump?

Ahh I thought you were saying you thought he was an idiot and wanted to train that Day. My apologies dude.

Honestly. For my half sleeve I think i gave it 3-5 days. But I also wasn't on gear and not capable of these dope Ass enhanced pumps

No problem buddy. I guess 3 days for a small design on my upper arm is plenty of time.
i also think he said to stay out of the ocean or pools and the sun for 3 weeks...?

I did squats after doing my upper back, made my tat look like granite, which i thought was actually cool. But basically it stetched and cracked the whole thing. Like stone/granite veins. I was bleeding alot. Wait a week.

You never tattoo’d someone in your life.

I did a bench session about 5 days after I got my chest done.
Fucked it up a little bit,
Had some cracking and leaking.

That being said, I got that one done/shaded etc with deep single point (Oldschool method) that's still used in 2nd world countries.
So its substantially deeper and more "Set into place"

My artist here told me I would have fucked it if she had done the same piece.

Keep slathering lotion on it.
Actually, all my best ink was when I didn't do a damn thing to it for the first 5 days or so. Everyone thinks it's best to constantly moisturize it, but lotion pulls ink out. It's a wound, you wouldn't scrape your knee and lotion the fuck out of it, you would let it harden and it would heal quicker this way.

The name of the game is to start moisturizing it more the later it is into the healing process. Trust me on this, first 5 days or so don't even touch it, not a thing! You would be awfully surprised at the difference between dry healing and slathering lotion on it. I promise you it's better leaving it alone!

Keep it clean and dry and loosely covered the first days with gauze. That worked for me when I had stitches for a gash on my calf.

Cover it with plastic if you take a shower.

Bepanthen speeds up the recovery by multiple days. Bad advice to not put anything on it.

Ofcourse it will heal, every wound will always heal.
