I guess because I have a hard time swallowing that intelligent people can be so convinced about what are outwardly conspiracy theories. He doesn’t sound like an ignorant person, but severely pushed in a direction from years of constantly being surrounded by the same message - it’s hard to overcome. Also, sitting and not engaging, thinking we are better and know better is what got us in this place. I want it to be better for my kids rather than worse. Disenfranchisement is what led to the mess we are in. If we just ignore it: it only gets worse.
Honest question - do you believe that the government wants this pandemic to be bigger than it is? Again; not a passing content but from what I have gathered so far, we very clearly are operating from two different sets of information. And to be honest, from my perspective, one of them just seems a whole lot more likely and reasonable - Occam’s razor. But what do I know? Maybe I’m just the sheep who watched a fuck ton of people die who really didn’t have to.

I absolutely believe our government as well as others want this to be bigger than it is. Absolute power corrupts absolutely and our government has been moving more and more toward absolute control in the name of safety.
Honest question: do YOU truly believe our government really cares about the safety and well being of our citizens? If so, why haven’t they restricted tobacco or alcohol or junk food? Do you truly believe the government has our best interest in mind? Do you even believe there is little to no chance that basically since the Patriot Act, we have lost more and more freedom?
As far as I’ve seen, deaths in the US were not off the charts from previous years. I’m not denying people have died from Covid but I also know a lot of them were preventable, like in the nursing homes. Others were like my friend’s dad with a compromised immune system and people with a sedentary lifestyle. 3,358,814 from 2,854,838 in 2019 and 2,839,205 in 2018.

I’m not trying to say this is or is not the case, it’s something I’ve genuinely wondered

I don’t doubt the deaths that were added to the US death toll for 2020, but as it was exposed, many of the Covid deaths were not Covid and the people had underlying co-morbidities. My buddy’s dad died of pneumonia, which he had multiple times in his life, each one was always life threatening. He just so happened to test positive for Covid, so they called it a Covid death. When my friend talked to the treating doctor, he was told the Covid was gone and then they were trying to treat his pneumonia. Death certificate states cause of death: Covid.
If I understand what you’re saying, you think they reused prior deaths to go into the death totals? I don’t think so because the numbers weren’t that great.

No doubt, just go back to April of 2020 when the commissioner of the Illinois department of health stated that even cases where the clear cause of death was not covid, it would still be counted as a covid death if they test positive

Yep, and then it was exposed so the Covid death count went from like 500k+ to 378k. Because of crap like that, I’m not fully convinced the Covid death toll is even close to that. And again - no numbers for flu deaths were counted last year either.
You can't apply logic with these ppl and not being ignorant doesn't mean you are intelligent. It's the same as flatearther etc. Conspiracy guys are impossible to convince of the opposite, and they are lucky we mostly live in a world were there is freedom of speech (more or less) and they are allowed to say all these bullshit and keep perpretating their shite.
All these ppl should have been born in China and then report back about freedom and losing it.
Hard to report back with hands and legs broken tho, or with no internet.

The thing is, I don’t gobble up bullshit. I’m a highly educated, highly intelligent person. I try to get my information from reputable sources, in this case, my colleagues, scientists, and respected people in the medical community. Not politicians or clearly highly influenced news outlets.
Whether or not you believe the numbers were inflated for whatever reason, a non-insignificant number of people died horrible deaths - some of which were purported deniers who were begging for treatment when shit hit the fan. I guess maybe I’m Pollyanna but I don’t believe the government just hates us and wants us to die or use mass biological warfare to control us. And I really don’t feel like I’ve seen enough factual evidence to the contrary. Maybe if our country or our allies were the only targets, but this shit hurt the globe.
It’s not the flu - but if your base set of facts says it’s just the flu, then I don’t think there’s a conversation to be had, and that’s sad. My attempt at discourse came from a good place though. I’m not here to convince you. I’m truly here to understand how we are so opposed on what the facts are.

I could go in to all of this again as I have in other posts, but neither of us will change the other’s mind. I’ll say this though - you don’t see this as a global conspiracy, however I’d have to wonder how many actually saw Hitler’s burning of the Reichstag building as the start of global domination? Not many would, however he set the precedent for creating an unseen enemy that kept the German people living in fear and out of that was able to demonize an entire group of people and then move on toward world domination. I see that happening yet again, as we did right after 9/11. Check out Bill Gates Ted Talk where he outlines the use of vaccines and birth control and other measures to depopulate the earth. All of a sudden a computer nerd who just so happens to be one of the richest people alive became the voice of the medical community, and has already spoken of global depopulation?
You seem to see government as our friend or at least an ally. I see government as an intruder, and so did our forefathers when they wrote our constitution. They had the foresight to realize that at some point, government always tried to take over - that’s been the history of mankind and organized government and it isn’t about to change.
I don’t believe I ever said it was the flu, please quote where I did. I actually believe it’s a bio weapon that was meant to target the weak as a means of population control.

There's always going to be arguments and discussion over it because we're not allowed to deal with it as we see fit. Attempting to force a Vax on you that doesn't stop you from getting or spreading the virus is a non starter. If it actually stopped the spread and it wasn't so politicized there'd be a better chance at a conversation.
Are people that are vaxxed that are getting covid now breakthrough cases vaxxed with which vax? Is it mostly phizer moderna or jnj? I really don't hear anything about JnJ anymore. Its all phizer and moderna. Also vax related deaths are those dying from the vax which vax did they get? Once again all I hear is phizer moderna nothing JnJ. Anybody seeing hearing the same?

Exactly. If someone wants to win a Darwin award, don't get in the way. Just ask one question when they get to the er. Did you get vaccinated? If not give them some ivermectin and send them home. Problem solved. Everyone's a winner.
The vast majority have no or mild symptoms. That is people who would otherwise have serious symptoms or require hospitalization. Those with other health concerns.
The truth is is that if you are healthy, you will most likely not get seriously ill from covid. Be an inconsiderate asshole and think only of yourself.
