First Homebrew sterility/filtraton question

Hello everyone !
So I have my powders coming soon but I still have few questions about the process
I can’t find Wheaton media bottle that have 33mm neck that you can put a cap that allow you to draw from.
So I went for a classic GL45 media bottle.

The recipe I am gonna do is basic:
_Put the oil + BB + powder into a beaker
_Place the beaker into a hot water bath
_Stirr until solution is crystal clear
_Wait a bit and remove from the hot water bath and add the BA

Filtering (this is where I have a question):
So since I can’t find the Wheaton media bottle and I don’t want to filter my solution with a syringe filter my plan is to use the millipore top filter that fit into a GL45 bottle (sterilized ofc).
Is it practical in term of sterility, to draw the filtered solution wich is in the GL45 bottle with a 50cc syringe attached to a 4inch sterile needle and drop it into a sterile empty vial ?
Is any of the step above good or should i change something ?

Millipore bottle top filters are polystyrene housed, which is not compatible with benzyl alcohol. So if you’re filtering a lot of oil the polystyrene housing will be dissolved into your solution. There are threads here on meso about this. Melted plastic in your gear is not good. You’re gonna want to use glass, or polypropylene if you don’t want any reaction with your solvents and the housing of the filter. It will be very difficult to find pre-sterilized polypropylene housed filters that have the proper membrane filters you need, so you may have to resort to glass, or just try the millipore and use less solvents in hopes the housing won’t leach into your gear. The best option would be to buy a glass filtration system and paper filter membranes. PVDF.

As for transferring the finished product into sterile vials, it’s best to do under a Laminar Flow Hood, with proper clothing on (gloves, clean, long sleeved hazmat suit) which will help prevent any floaters or hair from entering vials. If you don’t have a flow hood and don’t want to invest in one or make one, I would use a bottle top dispenser. It will screw onto the gl45 cap and from there you can dispense into the vials. As long as you’re working in a clean environment and everything is sterile you’ll be fine

WTF ? ROFL !

Times change, I dig that, but please don't start another ug lab wih fucked up knowledge and poor principles. Make the gear that way if you wanna but only use it yourself !!

What is wrong with that approach?

Ok thank you so much for you detailed answer I actually like the idea of the bottle top dispenser
I didn’t knew this about the bottle top filter I wanted to use so I am gonna change some things

You are compromising sterility. The optimal way to do that is to get a laminar flow hood. Does it matter? Maybe not since Ive heard people not even vialing their gear let alone sterilizing it but its a risk im not willing to take. Thats why I will always filter directly into presealed presterilized vials. The only way i would do anything different is if I was a lab but then i would get a flow hood haha

Ok so I think I am gonna go with syringe filter even tho I heard it is pain in the ass

Imagine if all UG labs thought like you (and many still do).
I mean.. It’s my first brew and I am asking questions and what can I change. It’s been like 1 month I read about homebrew and you come here just to say that this is shit and mocking for not having you knowledge without helping.
Imagine if all humans thought like you

I'm not knocking you bro but it's a bit backwards to be asking how to brew when you've already purchased raws and don't really know what you're doing.

Understanding the hygiene and filtration aspect is usually top of anyones list before even considering buying raws.

Calling filtering a PITA is seriously dumb regardless of who said it.

Yes, syringe filtering is a pain in the ass, that's why most only do it a couple times and the bottle top filter.

Get zapcap .2um filter

Get some 25ml sterile pipettes and a manual pipette handle thing. Has a vacuum bulb and a level on it.

That's similar to the amounts I brewed and it was never any hassle using syringe filters.

The whole idea of homebrewing is that you're just making little batches for your own cycles. Obviously some guys here have different ideas and bigger dreams
It's amazing how for some people, it starts very small and then "if I just sell 1 or 2 vials, then mine will be free". 2yrs later, it's snowballed quite a bit
