No one trains hard anymore

Little intro for those who dont know me. Im 55 been training in the gym since i was 21.
When i first walked into a gym it was for post surgery knee rehab. I weighed 61kg at 5 foot 9. My gym was in the very poor suburbs and most guys there were my age and hardly any bigger. The big dude of the gym God as he was known was the only one who could bench a plate each side. 45 pound plate. There were no fans no aircon no one had a phone no music. It was really like the movie pumping iron. Everything was rusty. But everyone worked out hard. No gear no one had fuel money back then.
I know my stats are lame but when you are 55 judge me. I go to a gym now and all the guys watch everything i do bewildered. I still use mostly free weights and the guys ask what im doing. Some even try to tell me there are machines for that exercise.
If i look around the gym now there are some huge mother fuckers. The size of the pros when i started. Sure they get the job done. But the rest just sit on a bench and txt on their phones.
Im old and these kids come up to me asking how to get arms like mine. How to get big legs like mine. When i was 20 i would hide in the corner and cry if some old cunt was bigger than me.
So i tell them the truth. I have 19 inch arms i weigh 117kg and im nearly 56. Want to be bigger than me. Leave your phone in the locker. Train with someone bigger than you. Eat something you cooked then eat some more. Fast food wont cut it you need to learn to cook. And train one muscle group at a time till it hurts so bad you cry. Tomorrow do it to another body part and repeat till you are at the start again.
No offense to messo guys. I know everyone here is serious. But the lazy fuckers i see in the gyms now make me mad. They want to get big but as long as it dont hurt.

Even though I attend a more serious weight lifting gym, I see many of the same people day in and day out. Little intensity, sitting on machines on their phone, just going through the motions.

Then they come up to you for advice. You help them out. Next time you see them they are back to doing nothing. And these lazy kids say all gear heads are stuck up. Juice junkies are too up themselves to even talk to us new guys.
Sorry but im going to do a back in my day moment. When i was new i watched what all the big guys were doing and that is what i did. I grew and then found bigger guys and watched them and grew.
I fear that in 10 years time all gym equipment will be like a treadmill. All you do is stand there and keep time with the machine. What is wrong with walking on the pavement. Except the pavement doesnt do all the work for you right.

I see your POV, the people taking up space training like pussies are annoying.
Worse. They are getting in the way of all the guys who work at a shit job all day and go to the gym to vent. A great workout where you crawl out of the gym totally spent puts a shit job in its place. But waiting for guys texting on their phones to finish with a machine or dumbell or bar winds me up. I honestly only go to the gym in the dry (quiet) times now. And if there is more than 5 other guys using free weights i know im going to upset someone. In the gym i become like msg is here.

I train pretty hard. Only done 1 cycle lol. I do feel everyone takes short cuts!
Why go the long way home if you arent going to get laid on the way. It isnt a shortcut if you get quicker to your goal. Gear isnt a shortcut used properly. Synthol is a shortcut.

im not gonna lie. I text inbetween sets, but I complete 25-30 sets within an hour.
 
I train hard and work hard and then pay for it, i cant recover from pushing too hard all the time. When I push hard I either go backwards or plateau. I think we can all agree you need fatigue modulation.
Guess i should have added that. The job you do does change the workouts you do and how you recover. I worked my early years in the metal industry making industrial buildings. I was so strong. Lifted stuff forklifts were ment to move. But i wasnt any where near as big as i am now. Last 20 years i sit in a seat all day. The heaviest thing i lift out of the gym is my lunch. I recover fast and can workout till i collapse with this job. Couldnt do that back then. Had to keep in mind my work the next day.

I'm in the same boat, learning fatigue management , autoregulation and dosing volume and intensity based on your recovery capabilities is huge. Ive found better results with keeping a few reps in reserve versus going to all out failure for example, both from a fatigue and performance standpoint. I find that my CNS cant recover as well, but my muscles can still handle more stimulus so it makes sense to not stress the CNS to that point so you can get the stimulus and volume in that your muscles can get an advantage from.

No, but that's just crazy. i used to do marathon junk volume sessions. Never did a damn thing for me.
Was just being funny and I would never need to to 25+ sets for anything as that's just a waste of time and energy that could be put to more productive use. I use my phone as my music player but don't text unless I hear a ping in my headset and only check it when done with the set I am currently on. It's my goal to get as much done within the one hour for the best muscle gain. Any training past that becomes wasted IMO.

What gym you at where you have swarms of kids coming up to you drooling over your arms and legs?
 
Kindergarden. Im like a god there. The girls think im a super hero. They drop their pants for me. Their parents say im a peadaphile. Dont understand their concern. Half naked old man flexing at a kindergarden is ok right.
